If you’re sick of hearing Slade and Band Aid for the ninety-fifth time when you’re sitting down to Christmas lunch this year, a potential solution may have presented itself. Screen legend Sir Christopher Lee has unveiled his latest heavy metal Christmas song. Yes, you read that correctly.

Lee, at the grand age of 92, has released his new Christmas song ‘Darkest Carols, Faithful Sing’, a version of ‘Hark! The Herald Angels Sing’. In his famous baritone, he sings “Glory to the metal kings!” You can hear a fragment of the new song in the video below.

Speaking to Blabbermouth who broke the story, Lee explained why he’s releasing another single. "At my age, the most important thing for me is to keep active by doing things that I truly enjoy. I do not know how long I am going to be around, so every day is a celebration and I want to share it with my fans."

This has become something of an annual tradition for the veteran actor. In 2012 he released a metallised cover that interweaved ‘Little Drummer Boy’ and ‘Silent Night’, and the following year he did the same with an original song called ‘Jingle Hell’ and Sinatra’s ‘My Way’. The latter song rose as high as Number 18 in the Billboard singles chart, making Lee the oldest ever living performer to score a hit.

The veteran actor has starred in almost 300 films in a career spanning six decades. He’s set to reprise his role of villain Saruman in The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, which hits cinemas soon. Possibly his most famous role is that of Lord Summerisle in the jawdropping cult favourite The Wicker Man (1973). He’s also played parts in Star Wars and Bond films, and many many more besides.
