Married to John Legend, a swimwear model and a new mother, Chrissy Teigen seems to have it all. However, the star has opened up for the first time about her post-partum depression since giving birth to her daughter last year in a new article for Glamour magazine.

She and her singer husband welcomed their first daughter, named Luna, eleven months ago in April 2016. The couple, who have been married since 2012 and had dated for five years before that, had tried unsuccessfully for many years to conceive, turning to IVF treatement.

But the 31 year old model and cookbook author penned an essay in the new edition of the fashion mag, and said that despite the fact she has “a great life”, the condition can happen to anyone. Indeed, it is estimated that one in nine new mothers suffer from post-partum depression to some degree of severity.

“I didn't think it could happen to me. I have a great life. I have all the help I could need. But postpartum does not discriminate,” she wrote. “I'm speaking up now because I want people to know it can happen to anybody and I don't want people who have it to feel embarrassed or to feel alone.”

She revealed that she often suffered from sleeplessness and often felt as if she couldn’t leave the house or enjoy a social life.

“As I’m writing this, in February, I am a much different human than I was even just in December. I’m over a month into taking my antidepressant, and I just got the name of a therapist who I am planning to start seeing. Let’s be honest though - I probably needed therapy way before Luna!” she continued.

“Like anyone, with PPD or without, I have really good days and bad days. I will say, though, right now, all of the really bad days - the days that used to be all my days - are gone.”

The couple have been open to having more children despite Chrissy’s struggles, however, and she’s currently focussed on getting better, for her daughter’s sake as well as her own.

“More than anything, I always want to have enough energy for Luna,” she said about her recovery process. “As she gets older, she's becoming more and more fun. Her eyes are getting so wide, and I want to be there for those wide eyes.”
