Christina Hendricks is to star alongside Ryan Gosling in new movie Drive.
Hendricks will play the character of Blanche in the movie which sees Ryan Gosling play a Hollywood stunt driver by day and by night a get away driver, who following a heist gone wrong discovers a contract put out on his head. The film directed by Danish film maker Nicolas Winding Refn, it has already attracted significant attention and will premiere later this moth at the Toronto Film festival, it will be released in cinemas September 16th 2011.
Hendricks is perhaps best known for her portrayal of Joan in hit TV series Mad Men. However, she has also appeared in several Hollywood movies including 2010 comedy Life as We Know It about two single adults who become caregivers to an orphaned child after their mutual best friend dies. Born in Knoxville, Tennessee, the 36-year-old actress' career began by appearing in various TV shows including E.R., Without a Trace and Las Vegas, but it was her role as Joan Holloway in Mad Men that has been the most successful so far. She is currently filming Struck by Lighting which tells the story of a boy who is killed after being struck by lighting and recalls how he blackmailed his fellow students into contributing to his literary magazine.
