Christina Applegate is set to take the lead role in a new comedy from the makers of Saturday Night Live.

The as-yet untitled sitcom will feature CHRISTINA APPLEGATE as a working mother struggling with her stay-at-home husband and overbearing parents. The new show is the brainchild of SNL writer Emily Spivey and legendary producer Lorne Michaels. It will pilot on NBC.

CHRISTINA APPLEGATE has proven to be an actress in demand this pilot season, already passing over a role in the new project from Darren Star, 'Good Christian Bitches.'

No stranger to the sitcom, Applegate famously got her big break as Kelly Bundy in Fox's long-running 'Married, With Children.' She has since starred in big screen comedies such as Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, in which she starred opposite SNL veteran WILL FERRELL. In 2007 she took the title role as an amnesiac trying to piece back her life together in ABC's 'Samantha Who?'

In 2008 Applegate was diagnosed with the early stages of breast cancer and underwent a mastectomy. She has spoken about her public battle with the disease with US Magazine: "It's always in the back of your mind that you get one shot at this, so try to be as joyful and forgiving as you can."

The actress just recently had her first child, Sadie Grace, with fiance Martin LeNoble.
