TNT To Axe 'Leverage' After Christmas Special

TNT has announced that it will be scrapping the popular show Leverage from the air when the current series comes to an end, on Christmas Day (Dec 25).

Leverage, which revolves around a crew of skilled swindlers who use their skills to fight corporate and governmental injustices inflicted on ordinary citizens, was cancelled on Friday (Dec 21) by the network amidst failing ratings, although the news that the show would be ending was announced some time before.

Dean Devlin, executive producer of the show, explained the situation to fans in an open letter released on December 6th on the fan website www.leveragefans.com. In the letter he writes: "As of the writing of this letter, we still do not know if there will be a season six of our show. Because of this uncertainty, [series creator] John Rogers and I decided to end this season with the episode we had planned to make to end the series, way back when we shot the pilot. So the episode that will air on Christmas is, in fact, the series finale we had always envisioned."

TNT To Cancel 'Leverage' After Five Seasons On Air

TNT announced today that it is planning to axe the show 'Leverage' from the air after five seasons, with the show ending with a Yuletide finale on Christmas Day.

The network confirmed the news that the drama, which follows a crack squad of highly skilled operatives who fight injustice by staging elaborate scams, will end on Christmas day with the episode, The Long Goodbye Job (10 p.m. ET/PT). What a fitting end.

In a statement made public earlier today (Dec 22), TNT told the press: "Leverage has thrilled audiences with its delightfully intricate plots, its 'stand up for the little guy' attitude and its terrific performances from stars Timothy Hutton, Gina Bellman, Christian Kane, Beth Riesgraf and Aldis Hodge. But after five wonderful years, it's time to say goodbye."

Keep Your Distance Review

OK
About 45 minutes into Stu Pollard's Keep Your Distance, I finally flipped over the DVD case to see exactly what I was watching. Turns out this is a thriller about a couple of stalkers, though the lazy pace of the beginning of the film would hardly tip you off to that.

Gil Bellows headlines as David Dailey, a local Louisville talk radio jock who, we soon find out, is involved in a loveless marriage. Turns out his wife is carrying on a lesbian affair, which is messing with David's rep in town. Meanwhile, young Melody (the always radiant and underexposed Jennifer Westfeldt) isn't quite in love with her boyfriend, but he keeps pushing for fancy trips and even marriage. Soon, David starts getting cryptic cut-out-of-magazine notes and Melody spies a towncar with tinted windows always keeping watch over her. Could these two events be related? Well, never mind that David and Melody meet when he runs her over with his car, the answer is a qualified maybe.

Good
Meet Belle (Queen Latifah), a classic New York loudmouth with a hunky boyfriend and a dead-end job. By day, she works as a bike messenger, hustling from destination to destination, utilizing garbage truck roofs and crowded department store floors as shortcuts. By night, she spends her time skipping out on dates and transforming her Crown Victoria into supercharged yellow taxicab. After all, if she's going to drive at NASCAR someday, she will need a lot of practice, and if she can win the title as the Big Apple's fastest taxi driver, it might help her chances.

Now, meet Andy Washburn (Jimmy Fallon), a bumbling misfit of a New York City police officer. He screws up nearly every case his lieutenant -- who also happens to be his ex-girlfriend -- throws at him. Most recently, he blew an undercover assignment by getting his partner shot in the arm just before crashing the police car into a street market. His driver's license has been revoked (not that he could ever drive), and now might fight the streets of New York on foot.

Weak
Quigley Down Under comes up and over for this old west extravaganza, with Tom Selleck hamming it up the best he can in a tale adapted from a book by Louis L'Amour.

Dunno if it's a very good book, but it's not a very good movie. While Selleck's acting muscle is always a special treat solo, contending with co-stars Virginia Madsen, Wilford Brimley, and Mark Harmon(!), all in period costume and/or moustaches makes for a very rare juxtaposition of atrocious acting from the school of Schmaltz.
