Jurassic World has taken over $1 billion at the worldwide box-office in just 13 days - faster than any other movie in history. The movie starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard took $106.6 million over the weekend - the biggest ever second week gross in North America.

The movie is now Universal's second film to achieve $1 billion this year following the monumental success of Furious 7 in April.

Set 22 years after the events of Jurassic Park, on the same fictional island of Isla Nublar, Jurassic World revolves around a fully functional dinosaur theme park that draws tens of thousands of tourists a day. However, the park is plunged into chaos after a genetically-modified dinosaur named Indominus Rex escapes from its pen and runs wild across the island.

Directed by Colin Trevorrow and produced by original director Steven Spielberg, Jurassic World co-stars Jake Johnson, Ty Simpkins, Judy Greer, Irrfan Khan and Vincent D'Onofrio.

The huge box-office gross basically guarantees that Universal will be making several new Jurassic Park movies and Chris Pratt has already confirmed that he's signed on for a number of sequels.

Though Trevorrow has confirmed he will not return for sequels, he previously said: "We wanted to create something that would be a little bit less arbitrary and episodic, and something that could potentially arc into a series that would feel like a complete story."
