Could Denzel Washington Be Back In The Oscars Hunt With 'The Equalizer'?

Denzel Washington Chloe Moretz

We love seeing Denzel Washington getting his bad ass action star routine on and it looks like The Equalizer is going to give us just that opportunity. Based on the television series which ran between 1985 and 1989, the film adaption of The Equalizer promises to show Denzel at his fastest, finest (in every sense of the word) and most furious, as he takes on the Russian mafia to help a young hooker, played by Chloe Grace Moretz.  The role was originally thought to go to Russell Crowe, although he was replaced by Washington.

The Equalizer
Denzel Washington seems to be on top form in his upcoming movie The Equalizer

Washington’s character, Robert McCall, is an ex-intelligence officer with a Guy-Richie-Sherlock-Holmes-style ability to pre-plan an attack in his mind and carry it out with precision and (near) perfect timing. The Equalizer looks jam-packed full of action and a brooding Denzel, who just doesn’t seem to age.

Kristen Stewart Thought People Would Find 'Camp X-Ray' Role Unbelievable

Kristen Stewart Chloe Moretz Juliette Binoche Glenn Close Michael K. Williams

Kristen Stewart will look to cast off the shackles of her Twilight past once more in the new film Camp X Ray. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this week and has so far received relatively positive reviews (it currently holds an 8.1 rating on IMdb), yet Kristen has admitted that it is a film that she thought may bomb thanks to her unconvincing performance.

Camp X Ray
Kristen's performance has been singled out for praise by some critics

The actress spoke to MTV News this week about her concerns about the film, concerns that she was not a worthy enough actress to play the conflicted young soldier stationed at Guantanamo Bay who goes on to befriend an inmate of eight years. The young actress has admitted that during film and before the film premiered at the festival this week that she was worried people would struggle to buy into her character and that they were likely to write her off straight away.

Carrie Review

A more feminine slant elevates this remake to something interesting, even if the film is overwrought and essentially unnecessary. Director Peirce calls this a new adaptation of the Stephen King novel rather than a remake of the 1976 Brian DePalma film. But while this is an efficiently made freak-out, Peirce packs the screen with nods to the earlier movie, which remains the iconic version of this story.

Carrie (Moretz) is bullied at high school because she doesn't quite fit in. Mean girl Chris (Doubleday) targets her ruthlessly, humiliating her in the locker-room when she first gets her period. But Chris' friend Sue (Wilde) thinks this went too far, and convinces her hunky boyfriend Tommy (Elgort) to take Carrie to the prom. Back home, Carrie's mother Margaret (Moore) is a religious fanatic who hates men, rejects any hint of sex and locks Carrie in a tiny closet to pray for forgiveness when she even mentions going to a dance with a boy. But Carrie's womanhood has also brought her telekinetic powers. And as the prom approaches, Chris is planning something nasty that will provoke Carrie to react.

The first problem here is in casting Moretz as a teen wallflower, because she's simply too confident and glamorous to believe as someone so socially inept. Thankfully, Moretz is a terrific actor, so she sharply catches Carrie's nervous energy and makes us believe that she's been pushed to the brink by both her mother and her classmates. Even so, she works out how to use her power far too quickly. Opposite her, Moore delivers a superbly detailed portrayal of a paranoid true believer.

'Carrie' Returns With More Blood And A Modern Twist- Review Round Up

Chloe Moretz

'Carrie' is back on the big screen and is the third adaptation of Stephen King's famous horror novel with the same name that was published back in 1974. The new horror attempts to stay more faithful to the original story than the two previous films from 1976 and 2002 as it stars Chloe Mortez as 'Carrie White' and Julianne Moore as her overly-religious mother 'Margaret White'.

Chloe Moretz stars as the tormented 'Carrie'

The plots follows a unique girl in her last year at high school, who for as long as she can remember desires to be accepted as normal by her fellow students and mother. The trauma of being constantly tormented and bullied at school as well as dealing with her abusive, deranged mom, causes 'Carrie' to realise she has telekinetic powers.

Forest Whitaker Chloe Moretz Oprah Winfrey

Kick-Ass 2 – the follow up to 2010’s smash hit Kick-Ass – was expected to build up on its predecessor’s success by dominating the box office. But a slew of negative reviews have led to a fourth place finish, lagging behind Lee Daniel’s The Butler - starring Forest Whitaker.

The Civil Rights drama grabbed an impressive $25m on its opening weekend, possibly due to an all-star cast featuring Oprah Winfrey and Cuba Gooding Jr. and possibly due to a strong set of reviews. Either way, Lee Daniels will be delighted with the early response to his film.

Kick-Ass 2 Review

New writer-director Wadlow (Never Back Down) makes one severe misstep with this sequel to Matthew Vaughn's snappy 2010 Kick-Ass: he loses the irony. Now everything is played for goofy laughs and indulgent grisliness. There's no longer any subtext, nothing original in the structure or premise and a clear fear of being politically incorrect. Even so, it's an entertaining romp with a steady stream of funny gags.

After the craziness of the first film, Dave (Taylor-Johnson) has hung up his Kick-Ass costume and is trying to be a regular teen at school, but he's jealous of Mindy (Moretz) secretly carrying on her training as Hit Girl. So he asks her to team up and teach him some new tricks. But when her guardian (Chestnut) finds out, she promises to give up the violence and go back to school. Now Dave has to find a new partner, so he joins a lively team of underground heroes led by the gung-ho Captain Stars and Stripes (Carrey). But Dave's old nemesis Chris (Mintz-Plasse) still wants to avenge his father's death, so he abandons his dodgy heroic alter-ego Red Mist and instead becomes a supervillain called The Mother F**ker, with his own butler-assistant (Leguizamo) and a crew of minions.

Wadlow briskly leaps from one action set-piece to the next, and each scene has a witty sense of humour about it, even if the extreme violence is played for rather glamorised fun rather than the shock-value of the first film. Through everything, the dialog is packed with amusing lines that keep us laughing. And Mindy's parallel plot has its moments as well, throwing her in with the school's mean girls, who clearly don't know who they're messing with. Moretz plays Mindy so well that she makes everyone else feel scruffy and simplistic by comparison. Carrey's muscled meathead is a startlingly against-type role that strangely refuses to go anywhere. But Glen is rivetingly sharp in one key scene.

Glamorize Violence? Kick Ass 2 "Unglamorizes" It, Actually, Says Mark Miller

Jim Carrey Chloe Moretz

It may not an actual word, but Kick Ass creator Mark Miller is pretty sure that Kick Ass 2 unglamorizes violence, instead of the popular opinion that it in fact glamorizes it. The news comes on the eve of the film’s U.K release, and after Jim Carrey withdrew support for it on Twitter.

Chloe MoretzChloe Moretz stars in Kick Ass 2

"In many films you don't see the grieving or the pain but in Kick-Ass you feel every blow... It's a very real take on violence and it almost unglamourises it," Miller explained to the BBC. "Jim Carrey's character ironically is a born-again Christian who refuses to carry a gun because... he doesn't want to be a negative role model for children."

Could 'Kick Ass 2' Be Even Better Than The First? [Trailer + Pictures]

Chloe Moretz Aaron Johnson Jim Carrey Christopher Mintz-Plasse

Kick Ass was the surprise hit of 2010; the ultra-violent adaption from the comic book by Mark Miller was a cheap, successful movie, and now it’s back with an even bigger roster of stars, and is set to build upon the success of its predecessor.

Chloe MoretzChloe Moretz Kicking Ass

Just in case you didn’t know, the original saw Aaron Johnson (Dave Lizewski) become a vigilante super hero called Kick Ass, fully unaware that Nicolas Cage (Damon MacReady) and Chloe Moretz (Mindy MacReady) were already protecting the city from criminals as Big Daddy and Hit Girl. They join forces to battle the criminal syndicate helmed by Christoper Mintz-Plasse’s father.

Kick Ass 2 - Extended Red Band Trailer

Dave and Mindy have been forced to abandon their Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl monikers following the defeat of ruthless crime boss Frank D'Amico and the death of Mindy's father Big Daddy. Dave goes back to his school life, while Mindy enrols alongside with him and struggles to fit in amongst her fellow female classmates. However, their 'normal lives' don't last when a new group of masked crime-fighters hit the streets led by the patriotic Colonel Stars and Stripes and they decide it's time to do what they think's right and join with them. It's just as well too, as D'Amico's vengeful son Red Mist has adopted a new alter-ego, The Motherf*****, and is attempting to rally an army of supervillains - with names like Black Death, Mother Russia and Genghis Carnage - to take Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl down.

Carrie Trailer

Carrie White is a plain and very sheltered girl raised alone by her extremely strict Christian mother who frequently punishes her. At school she is habitually bullied, something that gets ten times worse after a both humiliating and terrifying experience in the girls' locker room which causes her mother to inflict yet more punishment on her. Through her tumultuous life, she discovers that she has the power to move objects with her mind, something that causes much distress to her mother. The only people to truly show any compassion is her gym teacher Miss Desjardin and one of the popular girls, Sue Snell, who encourages her handsome boyfriend Tommy Ross to take her to the school prom. Carrie accepts, believing that she has been accepted for the first time in her life, only to face the biggest and most destructive humiliation of her life.

The re-make to the Oscar nominated 1976 horror based on the book by acclaimed author Stephen King is due to hit screens this year in the first major rendition since the Brian De Palma flick's release. 2013's 'Carrie' has been directed by Kimberly Peirce ('Boys Don't Cry', 'Stop-Loss') with a screenplay by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa ('Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa') and it is set for release in UK cinemas everywhere from November 29th 2013.

Will ‘Carrie’ Be Chloe Grace Moretz’ First Oscar Nominated Role?

Chloe Moretz

Chloe Grace Moretz’ stock has been rising, well, since she started acting really. She may be young, but she’s hot property in Hollywood, and her latest role as Carrie may just be the film to push her beyond ‘child actor’ and into ‘Oscar contender’.

Carrie, if you didn’t know is a famous horror story by Stephen King, first adapted to the screen by Brian De Palma in 1976. Now, the film lovers horror film is being remade by Kimberly Peirce, who handed Moretz the chance to go down in cinematic history by playing the enigmatic powerhouse child. Eventually, Carrie discovers the powers that lay within her: an awesome ability to manipulate nearly anything telekinetically. And what’s the catylist for this power? Anger, of course. Don’t make Carrie angry, as you can see by the new trailer released. Moretz has played some memorable roles, most notably Hit Girl in the Kick Ass films, where she swears, fights, shoots and generally does everything a teenage girl doesn’t. She’s clearly talented, but now she has the horror fans to answer to.

Kick Ass 2 Trailer

After their previous caped capering defeating mob boss Frank D'Amico, things seem back to normal for Dave Lizewski and Mindy who have abandoned their respective Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl monikers in favour of a regular high-school life. Mindy struggles to fit in, however, and when Dave tells her of the new generation of crime-fighting, masked civilians, the offer to get back on the streets of New York seems too good to turn down. This new league of superheroes is led by the formidable Colonel Stars and Stripes who encourages his co-crusaders, above all else, to have fun. Though when news of Red Mist, the son of the now deceased D'Amico who now dubs himself The Motherf*****, rallying together an army of supervillains to take on Kick-Ass and his cohorts, things seem less than enjoyable for the teenage heroes.

New Kick-Ass 2 Trailer: Chloe Grace Moretz Just Owned Your Ass!

Chloe Moretz Aaron Johnson Jim Carrey

The new international trailer for Kick-Ass 2 has arrived, focusing on Chloe Grace Moretz's Hit-Girl character generally causing chaos and kicking some serious behind. Readers of the original comic-book will know that the sequel to Mark Millar's original caper is very much centered on Moretz's character, so expect plenty of the ultra-violent 15-year-old.

The new trailer also gives us a little more footage of Jim Carrey's Colonel Stars and Stripes, though nothing of Donald Faison's Doctor Gravity just yet. Carrey stole the original trailer with his "Yeah, there's a dog on your balls," line, though it's Hit-Girl who leads the cast in the new promo. It opens with her father having a serious discussion with her about her conduct, pleading with her to begin high-school as a regular, normal student.

The trailer for 'Kick Ass 2' is finally here showcasing yet more hilarious superhero capers from Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr.'s lovable comic duo Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl.

It opens with Chloe Grace Moretz displaying her usual feisty Hit-Girl attitude as she and Aaron Johnson's Kick-Ass show that they've done some serious training since the original movie in 2010. We also see the return of Christopher Mintz-Plasse, whose formidable Red Mist character has morphed into the supervillain The Motherf***** with revenge on his mind as goes about building a destructive army to avenge his father against Kick-Ass' new superhero team headed by the militant Colonel Stars and Stripes, unrecognisably played by Jim Carrey, and his masked pooch (no joke!).

Kate Nash The Cribs Chloe Moretz

The Kate Nash of old is long gone. The singer once known for wearing cutesy dresses and cardigans appears to have shed that vintage look and is opting for a more dramatic sartorial style. Sporting a shimmering grey dress with bows and a black cape-like quilted black coat, Kate finished off her look with her hair rolled atop her head in a rockabilly style, showing off its part-black dye job. Part goth, part old-school rock and roll, one thing’s for sure, this is a new Kate Nash we see before us now.

Movie 43 Review

A collection of random shorts that focus mainly on idiotic male behaviour, this portmanteau comedy is only occasionally amusing, never making anything of its astonishing cast. Frankly, we spend most of the time wondering how the filmmakers lured these A-listers to appear in these pointless, nasty little films. And while the premises have potential, not a single one has a decent punchline.

As a prank, two teens make up a banned online film called Movie 43. While their brainly little brother searches for it, he runs across a series of clips that mainly focus on awkward vulgarity between the sexes. Bitter exes (Culkin and Stone) have a rude exchange that's broadcast on a supermarket sound system. Pratt is shocked when his girlfriend (Faris) asks him to "poop" on her, and agrees because he loves her. Parents (Watts and Schreiber) homeschool their teen son (White) with the goal of showing him how excruciating life will be. Two pals (Scott and Knoxville) kidnap a leprechaun (Butler) who's reluctant to give them his gold. And a 1950s basketball coach (Howard) tries to convince his players that they're winners because they're black.

Others are dating scenarios: Winslet goes on a blind date with a guy (Jackman) who has testicles on his neck; Berry and Merchant play an increasingly deranged game of Truth or Dare in a Mexican restaurant; a pre-teen (Bennett) can't cope when his young date (Moretz) has her first period; Batman (Sudeikis) messes up Robin's (Long) attempt at speed-dating; Banks struggles to cope with her new boyfriend's (Duhamel) obsessive cartoon cat. There are also a few random advert spoofs, including one for the naked-woman shaped iBabe, which leads to trouble for the company CEO (Gere).

Jim Carrey Is Judd Apatow's Funniest Man On Earth

Jim Carrey Judd Apatow Chloe Moretz

The name 'Judd Appatow' probably rings a bell, but without clear recognition of who he is. We guarrantee that he's partly responsible for one of your favourite contemporary comedy movies, having been involved as either a director, writer or producer for The Cable Guy, Anchor Man, Knocked Up, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Superbad, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Pineapple Express, Don't Mess With the Zohan and Bridesmaids. To name but a few. It's safe to say, this man knows comedy. Which is why it is actually news worthy for him to say that Jim Carrey is the funniest man on the earth, because it kind of means that we have to consider whether Jim Carrey might actually be the funniest man on earth...

For the latest edition of Vanity Fair, Appatow teamed up with the editorial team for their special comedy issue and wrote: "When I was a stand-up comedian in the late 80s, I used to open for Jim Carrey on the road. I would do my lame act and then he would come on and do the most energetic, inventive, uproarious set I had ever witnessed. I retired from performing as a result. He was and is the funniest man on earth. This is something we can all agree on. We can debate number two forever but Jim will always be the king."

High praise indeed! And he certainly sounds convincing, but to be honest, we don't actually agree with him. While Appatow is currently working on the Anchor Man sequel and something called 'Can a Song Save Your Life?', Carrey has been working hard on the set for another sequel- Kick Ass 2. As Yahoo reported, he took the cast of the film on a private boat tour of the Thames in England, giving them a hilarious fictional history of England as they travelled- apparently it kept Chloe Moretz, Nicolas Cage and Aaron Taylor-Johnson in stitches.

Movie 43 Trailer

If you were hoping for a romantic comedy with a harmless storyline, romance and inoffensive jokes, the here's a warning: read no further. 'Movie 43' is one of the most cringe-worthy and uncensored taboo-filled flicks to be released in the history of comedy. Here you will see several interlinked stories with characters' lives surrounding unusual proposals, interrupting blind kids' parties, bad parenting, teenage menstruation, a confused and slightly racist basketball coach, innovative business ideas and the kidnapping of a violent leprechaun. Once you see this movie it is unlikely you will find a subject that offends you ever again.

With twelve different comedy genius directors including Peter Farrelly ('Dumb & Dumber', 'There's Something About Mary', 'Shallow Hal'), Steve Carr ('Daddy Day Care', 'Dr Dolittle 2'), Steven Brill ('Little Nicky') and Brett Ratner ('Rush Hour') to name but a few and eight different writers, this jaw-droppingly crude and often obscene movie features a diverse star-studded cast, both British and American, who have banded together to shock you in the most hilarious ways you can think of. Whatever kind of comedy you're into, 'Movie 43' probably has something in it for everyone and it is set to hit the big screen on February 1st 2012.

Directed by : Elizabeth Banks, Steven Brill, Steve Carr, Rusty Cundieff, James Duffy, Griffin Dunne, Peter Farrelly, Patrik Forsberg, James Gunn, Bob Odenkirk, Brett Ratner, Jonathan van Tulleken

Carrie Remake Teaser Trailer: Will Fans Of The Original Be Converted?

Chloe Moretz Julianne Moore Brian De Palma Kimberly Peirce Sissy Spacek

A teaser trailer for the Carrie remake was unveiled at New York’s Comic Con last weekend and has now made its way online. Starring Chloe Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore, the re-visioning of the 1976 Brian De Palma classic will, of course, have horror fanatics cowering behind the sofa in fear, peering gingerly through the fingers that fearfully cover their eyes. This won’t be because they are particularly scared of whatever is happening on screen, though but because they are petrified of what director Kimberly Peirce may have done to their beloved Carrie.

The teaser trailer itself isn’t exactly very… teasing. As the camera pans over an American town that’s been pretty much entirely set on fire, it eventually zooms in on Chloe Grace Moretz, stood in the middle of the street, surrounded by flames and covered in blood, recalling the classic Carrie scene. Except, in the classic image of Carrie (played by Sissy Spacek), covered in blood, she wasn’t standing in the middle of the street. She was at her school prom. But hey, why let a massive detail like that upset you? Perhaps this scene is just from her walk home from the prom. (Cue thousands of horror purists reaching for their ventilators).

Over the action, a montage of voices spout various suspense-inducing phrases, such as “she wasn’t some monster — she was just a girl” and “her mother was a fanatic, I don’t know how she lived with her.” We don’t get much more than that from this first glimpse of the film; the movie’s producers will have to try a lot harder than this if they want to coax any fans of the original out from behind the sofa.

Dark Shadows Review

There were 1,245 episodes of the gothic soap Dark Shadows between 1966 and 1971, so adapting it into a movie was never going to be easy. The script is an odd mix of smart dialog and random plot-strands, and while Burton gets the style right he never quite finds the tone.

After spending nearly 200 years trapped in a coffin, Barnabas Collins (Depp) is released to rejoin what's left of his wealthy New England family in 1972. The matriarch Elizabeth (Pfeiffer) now lives in the falling-down manor Collinswood with her brother Roger (Miller), her daughter (Moretz) and his son (McGrath), as well as a live-in shrink (Bonham Carter), a caretaker (Haley) and a new governess (Heathcote). But Angelique (Green), the witch who turned Barnabas into a vampire, is still trying to destroy the family.

Hugo Review

Based on the Brian Selznick novel The Invention of Hugo Cabret, Scorsese's first family movie combines a young boy's adventure with a cinematic history lesson. It's a celebration of wide-eyed wonder that's a joy to watch, although the title isn't the only thing that's dumbed-down.

In early 1930s Paris, the orphaned Hugo (Butterfield) lives in Montparnasse station, where he scurries through forgotten passageways maintaining the clocks. He learned this skill from his late father (Law), but an automaton they were fixing is his only reminder of his happier childhood. Dodging the tenacious station inspector (Baron Cohen), Hugo worms his way into the life of grouchy shopkeeper Georges (Kingsley), and has a series of adventures with his goddaughter Isabelle (Moretz). When they learn that Georges is forgotten pioneer filmmaker Georges Melies, they decide to help bring him back to life.

Scorsese tells this story with bravura moviemaking trickery, from whooshing tracking shots to wonderfully inventive uses of 3D. He also peppers the screen with witty references to film history from Modern Times to Vertigo, clips from early cinema and flashbacks to the Lumiere brothers' exhibition and Melies' busy studio. Meanwhile, the main plot unfolds with a warmly inviting glow, sharply telling details and a colourful cast of memorable side characters.
Intriguingly, everyone is a bit opaque; like the automaton, the gears turn but we never really understand them.

Butterfield's Hugo may be consumed by an inner yearning, but he's always on guard, providing a watchful pair of eyes through which we see the drama, romance and slapstick of the station. And it's in these details that Scorsese and his cast draw us in. Standouts are Baron Cohen, who adds layers of comedy and pathos to every scene, and McCrory (as Mrs Melies), with her barely suppressed enthusiasm. As usual, Kingsley never lets his guard down: he invests this broken man with a bit too much dignity.

As the film progresses, the passion for the movies is infectious. Scorsese's gorgeous visual approach and writer Logan's controlled cleverness never overwhelm the human story. And even if Melies' life and Paris' geography are adjusted for no real reason, the film's warm drama and delightful imagery really get under the skin, making us fall in love with the movies all over again.
