Embattled rapper Chief Keef has escaped further legal troubles by handing over just enough child support money to prevent him from going to jail.

The 18-year-old hip-hop star was hauled before a judge in October (13) after he was accused of failing to pay a court-ordered $2,600 (£1,677)-a-month sum to an unnamed teenage mother who claimed the star had fathered her daughter.

A judge offered Chief Keef - real name Keith Cozart - the chance to escape further action by handing over a cheque for $11,000 (£7,300), which the star accepted.

He owes a total of $20,900 (£13,933) in back payments, reports Tmz.com.

The star is due back in court in December (13).

It is the latest round of legal woes for Cozart, who is heading to rehab for 90 days for violating his probation by testing positive for marijuana. He was ordered to stay sober after pleading guilty to a charge of speeding following an arrest in May (13).
