The funeral of Celine Dion’s husband René Angélil is to be held at the same church where he married ‘the great love of his life’ 21 years ago. Angélil passed away on Thursday, January 14th on the eve of his 74th birthday, after a long battle with cancer.

Angélil’s obituary (obtained by People magazine) reads: "According to his final wishes, his funeral will be held at Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal, where 21 years ago, he chose to marry the one who will remain as the great love of his life, the artist for which he had the most respect, the woman who gave him light and happiness until his very last breath.”

The funeral will be held on Friday, January 22nd and on February 3rd there will be a Celebration of Life for Angélil, held at Caesars Palace Colosseum in Las Vegas. The family have also asked for those wanting to honour Angélil to make a donation to the Azar-Angelil Research Chair for ORL Cancer.

Just one day after announcing the news of Angélil’s passing, Dion’s family confirmed that the singer’s brother Daniel is dying of cancer and does not have long left to live. Claudette Dion, one of Celine and Daniel’s 14 siblings, told the The Journal of Montreal: "It looks a lot like René, he had cancer of the throat, tongue and brain.”

"Our family is very experienced. He is 59 years old – very young to be the end of life.” Claudette added that members of the Dion family including their 89-year-old mother, Therese, gathered at Daniel's beside on Thursday, after they were informed he did not have long left to live. "We are with Daniel, day and night," she added.

Since announcing her husband’s passing on Thursday, Dion has cancelled her Las Vegas shows for Saturday and Sunday. Dion is expected to return to the Las Vegas stage on February 23rd.
