The iconic outfit, seen onscreen in 1983's Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi, is expected to fetch up to $120,000 (£75,000) when it is auctioned off during the Profiles in History sale in California on 1 October (15).

Auction house spokesman Brian Chanes says of the coveted lot, "It's every schoolboy's fantasy but it's also a very signature, iconic piece."

The Hollywood props sale also features numerous other items from the sci-fi franchise, including scripts, cameras used to shoot the movies, and prototype Darth Vader helmets.

The auction runs from 29 September (14) to 1 October (15).
