The female lead of the original Star Wars movies has given some sage advice to the star of the new ones, as Carrie Fisher interviewed newcomer Daisy Ridley. The Princess Leia actress, now 59, has warned 23 year old Ridley not to let herself be dressed in any gold bikinis for the movies!

In an exchange for Interview Magazine’s November edition, Fisher asked the newbie if she was prepared to be the object of the sexual fantasies of millions of Star Wars fans around the world when The Force Awakens opens in cinemas in December.

“No, they always talk about how you’re a sex symbol, and how do I feel about that,” Ridley answered, adding, “I’m not a sex symbol!” Fisher then offered some words of caution, implying that she may not have that much say in the matter. “Listen! I am not a sex symbol, so that’s an opinion of someone. I don’t share that,” she said.

Ridley, whose only big screen experience has been some deleted scenes from the British snigger-fest The Inbetweeners 2, is preparing to go from being a virtual unknown to the widest movie platform of all when she stars as the character Rey. She seems to be in a philosophical mood about such huge exposure, judging by the exchange.

“I don’t know if I can prepare for what’s to come because I don’t know what will,” the young British actress said.

Fisher, whose metal bikini in the famous scene from Return of the Jedi in 1983 made her a cultural phenomenon, urged Ridley to retain control over what she wears and to not allow herself to be portrayed as a “slave”.

“You should fight for your outfit,” she warned Ridley. “Don’t be a slave like I was.”
