Buzz Lightyear ready for take off in New York's Thanksgiving Day Parade

Around three million people are expected to line the streets of New York for Macy’s 86th Annual Thanksgiving Day Parade. The event kicks off at 8am and already, teams of workers have been hard at work setting up for the parade, with giant inflatables being set in place for the huge yearly event. An enormous Buzz Lightyear was blown up last night, along with an enormous Hello Kitty figure and Sonic the Hedgehog will be showing his face, too.

The parade itself kicks off at 8am and a whole host of stars are expected to attend. All eyes will be on the likes of Carly Rae Jepsen, Jimmy Fallon, the US Olympic gymnastic team and Flo Rida to lift the spirits of a city decimated by Hurricane Sandy just a few weeks ago. The executive producer of the parade Amy Kule, said “This year, I believe it will be even more important and I believe will represent as a beacon of hope for the entire tri-state area.” A dedicated float in the parade will feature the city’s first responders, in tribute to the work that they have done whilst the city was under the grips of the storm. Those taking part will also wear a Red Cross pin to mark the relief effort that continues in the aftermath of the storm.
