British Politician Nick Clegg In Embarrassing Carly Rae Jepsen Video Parody

Carly Rae Jepsen Tom Hanks

Former Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg spent close to £8,000 on a parody version of Carly Rae Jepsen’ music video for ‘I Really Like You’ in the run-up to last year’s general election, it has been revealed.

The ex-deputy Prime Minister is seen hamming it up, re-creating Tom Hanks’ famous role in the music video, which became a viral sensation in March 2015. However, where Hanks is seen walking down the streets of New York City, Clegg’s video sees him strutting the mean environs of Gravesend in Kent.

Justin Bieber, Cheryl And Others Appear In Nick Grimshaw's 'SFW' Parody Of Kanye's 'Famous'

Kanye West Nick Grimshaw Justin Bieber Cheryl Cole Carly Rae Jepsen

Stars such as Justin Bieber, Cheryl and Carly Rae Jepsen have starred in a new ‘SFW’ version of Kanye West’s notorious ‘Famous’ music video, organised by BBC Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw.

Unlike Kanye’s controversial clip, in which incredibly life-like waxworks lie completely naked in the same bed, in the self-styled ‘Safe For Work’ parody version all the celebrities are fully clothed.

The affectionate clip also features the likes of Meghan Trainor, Nick Jonas, the pop-punk act Five Seconds of Summer, And & Dec and Craig David.

50 Cent, And Other Terrible First Pitches From Celebrities

50 Cent Carly Rae Jepsen

50 Cent may not be a comedian, but he sure made a LOT of people laugh earlier this week when the rapper threw out the ceremonial first pitch at a baseball game for the New York Mets. You’d think a guy his size would have enough arm strength to whip that ball perfectly down to home plate. Well, distance wasn’t the problem. Somehow, someway, 50 decided to release the ball way before he should have. As a result, it kind of flew from his hand a good 20 feet to the left of home plate, easily making it one of the most shameful celebrity first pitches in recent memory. “I’m a hustler, not a damn ball player,” the rapper light heartedly defended himself on Instagram. 50 Cent’s new album is scheduled to come out next month -- titled Animal Ambition -- but the only animal ambition he showed with his throw was that of a baby walrus.

50 Cent Premiere50 Cent's first pitch was really, really bad

Okay, okay, maybe we should give 50 a break and stop being so mean. After all, he’s not the only celebrity that has miserably botched their first pitch. Plenty of other stars deserve ridicule, too! In all honesty though, the subject at hand needs to be met with a certain level of seriousness and understanding … like seriously understanding how NO celebrity has ever apparently taken baseball lessons before. For what it’s worth, I guess there has been some decent first pitches in the past. Like last week, for instance: Randy Johnson threw out a pretty great pitch before an Arizona Diamondbacks game. Johnson is also a future Hall of Fame pitcher though. He might not count for this. Whatever. Talking about the worst ones is way more fun anyway, and there’s actually a couple that have put 50 Cent’s to shame.

Carly Rae Jepsen's Note To Self: Let Go Of The Ball On First Pitch

Carly Rae Jepsen Diana Ross

Carly Rae Jepsen turned up at the Tropicana Field on Sunday night (July 14, 2013) to throw the first pitch of the Ray's home game - and it was awful. A video that's on the verge on going viral shows the whole damn thing, with the 'Call Me Maybe' pop singer seemingly forgetting to let go of the ball at the appropriate time, launching it into the turf and watching as it squirted away to the left.

Met a lot of lovelies at this game today! Go Rays! :D by @carlyraejepsen

Embarrassed, Jepsen, 27, covered her face, laughed and threw her hands up in the end. Still in high spirits, she even posted a series of images on Instagram, saying, "A before and after. Me taking the mound. Me knocking the camera out of the photographers hands with the baseball. And me getting a sympathy hug from the catcher. Omg."

Friends In High Places Aid Songwriter Bonnie McKee's Bid For Pop Stardom

Bonnie McKee Katy Perry Macklemore Adam Lambert Carly Rae Jepsen George Takei

It looks like there’s a new pop star in the vicinity – or an aspiring one anyway. You may not have heard Bonnie McKee’s name before (in which case, you better get used to it), but the songwriter is the one behind major hits by Ke$ha, Katy Perry, Tayo Cruz, Britney Spears and many, many others. Now she’s thrown in her bid for a solo career in front of the mic. Appropriately, with its poppy tune, upbeat chords and summery vibe, the song sounds strongly reminiscent of a Katy Perry number or two – presumably, also written by McKee. If the poppy, synth-infused tune American Girl isn’t exactly to your liking, maybe the video will change your mind.

The video features McKee of course, but it also has more cameos than a Saturday Night Live episode. Starting with Katy Perry, we also get to see celebrities like Macklemore, Aram Lambert, Carly Rae Jepsen, Karmin, Nicole Scherzinger, Kiss, George Takei, Perez Hilton, etc. etc. – and that’s not even half the list. It also features McKee eating a red-white-and-blue popsicle, but that’s beside the point. This is probably one of the benefits of working in the music industry – lots and lots of friends available for help, should you ever feel like launching a musical career of your own.

Carly Rae Jepsen Cancels Boy Scouts Concert Over Outdated Homophobic Policies

Carly Rae Jepsen Train

Carly Rae Jepsen is refusing to perform at a Boy Scouts concert after learning that they have no intention of lifting their ban of gay men in the organisation.

The 'Call Me Maybe' singer took to Twitter to confirm the cancellation at the Boy Scouts of America National Scout Jamboree in Mount Hope, West Virginia in the summer, explaining: 'As an artist who believes in equality for all people, I will not be participating in the Boy Scouts of America Jamboree this summer'. She added that, 'I always have and will continue to support the LGBT community on a global level and stay informed on the ever changing landscape in the ongoing battle for gay rights in this country and across the globe.'

California band Train were also due to perform, but hold similar views to the popstar. They wrote on their blog, 'When we booked this show for the Boy Scouts of America we were not aware of any policy barring openly gay people from participation within the organization' and they added that all though they respect the old organisation, they are strongly against such discrimination but are most definitely willing to appear at the Jamboree 'as long as they make the right decision before then'.

Ahead Of The Grammys 2013 - How Carly Rae Jepsen's Aunt Made The 'Call Me Maybe' Decision An Easy One

Carly Rae Jepsen Justin Bieber Grammy Awards

Carly Ray Jepsen's call me maybe was easily the most infectious song of 2012, but considering there isn't a Grammy award for 'Most Infectious' (there totally should be), she'll have to make do with Song of The Year and Best Pop Solo Performance - not bad going really.

But the decision to release 'Call me Maybe' wasn't as easy as you'd think, as Jepsen regales to the L.A Times when asked if she knew if she was on to a winner. "No ... to be honest, and this might sound silly, but I was quite content with how things were going in Canada. I was shaping out a career there, and I was really excited because I'd had my first ever real record deal," she recalls. "I can remember we were choosing between "Call Me Maybe" and another song, "Curiosity." The moment my aunt started dancing to "Call Me Maybe," and she doesn't really dance to anything, I realized maybe we had something."

And have something she did. 'Call me Maybe' shot to the top of the charts and wouldn't be budged for 9 whole weeks, hurtling Jepsen towards global fame. The Grammy's recognition of her music does come as surprise, though, given that they often ignore huge pop songs, as Justin Bieber just keeps on finding out.

Carly Rae Jepsen On Balancing Life With Work, Infectious Track 'Call Me Maybe' Up For Two Grammys

Carly Rae Jepsen Justin Bieber Grammy Awards

Carly Rae Jepsen's infectious and repetitive, enormously successful single from 2012, 'Call Me Maybe' could have been just a one-hit-wonder. However, with two Grammy nominations under her belt and managing to top the Billboard charts in the US for weeks on end, it appears Jepsen's here to stay.

Speaking to the Associated Press she explained her surprise. "I was gunning maybe for Top 10 on iTunes. That was my little, mini secret goal," she said. So, appearing in the Grammys is an honor beyond her wildest dreams, it seems. Jepsen came third in Canadian Idol so while her career wasn't a dead cert she definitely had enough prior exposure to give her a leg up.

Not only that but she's pals with runaway star, fellow Canadian, Justin Bieber. Speaking to Seventeen Magazine, reported via the Inquisitor, the 26 year old singer spoke of how he's been a guiding light for her. "Justin leads by example. I love that he works hard and has fun," she said. "I was in Paris promoting my new album, Kiss, for three days with no time off. So I went out at four in the morning to go explore the entire city. I try to make moments happen that feel very special and memorable because that's exactly how Justin does it."

Taylor Swift performs at New Year's Rockin' Even in Times Square, NY. She wasn't just making headlines for her singing though...

They became two of the biggest pop stars in the world during 2012, so it was only fitting that Taylor Swift and Carly Rae Jepsen were on hand to bring the curtain down on 2012 at the famous New Year's Rockin' Eve televised event in New York's Times Square. Perhaps the real success of the night however was the ABC's host Ryan Seacrest who - with help from Jenny McCarthy - did the late great Dick Clark proud in hosting proceedings in the first Rockin' Eve to be held since the veteran's death last year.

Ryan Seacrest Hard At Work On First Rockin' Eve Without Dick Clark

Ryan Seacrest Dick Clark Carly Rae Jepsen Taylor Swift Flo Rida

ABC’s NYE programming will feature a 2-hour tribute to the late Dick Clark, right before its annual Rockin’ New Year special, hosted by Ryan Seacrest.

"I'd like to say I can imagine how it's going to feel, but I'm not quite sure," says Seacrest, quoted by The Associated Press. "I looked forward so much to each year that I did the show with him."

Seacrest is using the sad fact of Clark’s passing as motivation to make this year’s Rockin’ Eve better than ever in tribute. The presenter is reportedly hard at work, hammering out the “nitty-gritty” around the show, which will air from 8pm on the 31st, up until 2am on New Year’s Day. A host of A-list performance have already been booked, like Carly Rae Jepsen, Neon Trees, Flo Rida and Pitbull. Taylor Swift, who has arguably been one of 2012’s biggest success stories, will fill the headlining slot right before midnight. The show will air live, as usual, from Times Square in New York, but without Clark as a host there will undoubtedly have to be some changes.

Fame At Last: Adele’s ‘Someone Like You’ Is Most Popular Karaoke Tune In Britain

Adele One Direction Carly Rae Jepsen

Adele may have walked away from the Grammys with a clutch of awards at the start of the year but by golly, she’s ended it on an enviable high, having been awarded what could only be described as the greatest accolade in the history of music. That’s right, Adele Laurie Blue Adkins, your song, ‘Someone Like You’ has been named the most popular karaoke song with British revellers.

The results – as reported by – have been compiled by the Lucky Voice karaoke website, which also has a number of karaoke bars around the UK. 7% of all users of the website chose to sing ‘Someone Like You.’ To put that in context, the site has around 200,000. having said that, we’ve seen enough early rounds of X Factor to know that few people can pull off a version of ‘Someone Like You’ quite like Adele herself but it must be heart-warming for the 24 year-old to know that her song’s so popular amongst the warbling wannabees.

Frankly, even an amateur version of ‘Someone Like You’ is more appealing to us than anyone singing the second most popular song, Carly Rae Jepsen’s ‘Call Me Maybe’ (and yes, we’re including Carly Rae Jepsen in that statement, too. One Direction’s ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ is third on the popularity list and Adele pops up again in fourth place with ‘Rolling In The Deep.’

Gotye Ya! Psy's Gangnam Style Is Most Watched YouTube Of All Time

Psy Gotye Carly Rae Jepsen Barack Obama

Forget Goyte, forget Charlie bit my finger, Obama's rap battle or Kony 2012, because Psy's 'Gangnam Style' has become the most-viewed YouTube video of all time. The South Korean pop sensation is approaching 1 billion views for his bizarre dance video, leaving hugely popular clips in his wake.

To clarify, Gangnam Style isn't just the most watched music video of all time, it's the most popular video full stop. Artists and comedians are increasingly using the sharing website to promote their material and it's clearly working with the right videos. "It definitely suggests that there's change afoot," said James McQuivey, an analyst with Forrester Research. "I don't think the change is about one form of entertainment replacing the other. It's about the expansion of the platform to include more things. That will continue." The website now attracts more than 800 million users, who watch more than 4 billion hours of video a month. Gangnam Style, which spread from Asia to the United States and Europe, illustrates the true power of the internet influencing popular culture. "A lot of people are used to us having an insular pop culture, where everything is originating out of the U.S. and spreads to other parts of the world," said YouTube trends manager Kevin Allocca, "YouTube is a global thing - 70% of YouTube's views happen outside of the U.S. You have these things that are phenomena at a global scale."

Psy's breakout video overtook Gotye's 'Somebody That I Used To Know' as the most watched YouTube video of all time, with the Kony 2012 clip in third place. 'Call Me Maybe' by Carly Rae Jepsen and the Barack Obama versus Mitt Romney Rap Battle rounded out the top five.

Brits And Online Hits Take Over The 2012 Billboard Charts

Adele One Direction Drake Taylor Swift Gotye Carly Rae Jepsen

The Billboard chart holds few surprises this year as British boyband One Direction took the top spot for new artist or group.

It’s been the year of the British invasion of the American charts, with the UK act’s success and Adele topping the charts in five categories – best album, artist, female, Billboard 200 artist and album. The diva is on a roll, but who can argue with that? Even those, who aren’t particularly fond of the Brit’s music (we haven’t met any so far) would have to admit that 21 is a solid album and well worth of the recognition it’s getting. Well, that certainly makes up for the single 'Skyfall' failing to top UK charts this year.

Some other notable additions to the chart are Drake, for best male and best R&B artist, as well as (can you guess?) Taylor Swift for best country artist in a turn of events, which surprised, well, no-one. Meanwhile, Gotye and Carly Rae Jepsen have been named 2012’s best selling acts. Perhaps this is a testament to the internet’s power in creating celebrities, but we’re more inclined to take it as proof of everyone’s love of incessant, easy-to-remember jingles. That isn’t to say of course, that we haven’t listened to Call Me Maybe a couple (hundred) times ourselves.

Sunday night (December 2) at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles saw current chart sensation Taylor Swift coming up against The Jonas Brothers - who found themselves eclipsed by the star. Last night, though (December 3), it was the turn of Bieber - still deep into his lengthy tour - Ke$ha, YouTube sensation Psy and fast rising British group The Wanted, among others, to provide the party.

Carly Rae Jepsen's New Video 'This Kiss': Check It Out!

Carly Rae Jepsen Justin Bieber

The woman responsible for international sensation 'Call Me Maybe', Carly Rae Jepsen, has just released the video for her new single "This Kiss" from her 2nd studio album, "Kiss".

Jepson is currently on tour with Justin Bieber, and she's signed to the same record label as him, all of which implies that her career is on the up. This new video sees her at an '80s themed party, in which she's hanging with her friends before spying someone who's "just [her] type" and skidaddling off with him. The video has been compared favourably to No Doubt's video for "New" (MTV) and rather less favourably to Avril Lavigne ( Indeed, it does appeal to the original audience of Lavigne's Sk8er Boi, but as Carly's 26 it all seems a little immature. While it's perfectly satisfactory pop and her album has already reached decent levels in the charts of many countries, it's doubtful that this song or this video will have quite the impact or legacy of either of those aforementioned artists.

The video is directed by Justin Francis who has been responsible for some excellent music videos for artists including Eminem, The Mars Volta, Gwen Stefani and The Cure, among others.

Who Were The Winners Of ‘So You Think You Can Dance’?

Cat Deeley Carly Rae Jepsen

The ninth season of reality dancing contest So You Think You Can Dance drew to a close last night on American TV (September 18th) with the judges throwing a great twist to the audience right at the end. A two hour episode saw the four finalists, ballet dancers Eliana Gerard and Chehon Wespi-Tschopp as well as jazz dancer Tiffany Maher and robotics/animator Cyrus ‘Glitch’ Spencer revisiting routines performed earlier in the season in the race to impress the six judges.

It was a fiercely contested competition from a group of young and hungry dancers – not one was over 22 years old – who first of all performed the judges favorite routines from the entire season, before coming back and reprising their own personal favorites. Cat Deeley also picked a routine for them to perform whilst there was a singing performance by current pop superstar Carly Rae Jepsen.

When it came to the crunch though, the judges made history by, for the first time in the show’s history, picking two winners! They both came from the ballet style of dancing, with Gerard and Wespi-Tschopp being announced the champions. It is the first time that a dancer performing the ballet style has won the competition during its seven years on television. It’s unsure whether the pair will split the $250,000 prize money.

Is Carly Rae Jepsen's 'Kiss' The Best And Worst Pop Album Of The Year?

Carly Rae Jepsen

Carly Rae Jepsen's Kiss came out to give her fans a taste of her new material before she embarks on a tour, which starts in Arizona on September 19th. Contact Music have been furiously reading reviews of the Call Me Maybe star to determine if she's stumbled upon musical thunder or a pop blunder.

Early indications would suggest. neither. Reviews for Kiss hint that anyone who buys the album has done so because of Jepsen's incredibly catchy single, which implores a mystery man to ignore the craziness and just call her. "Very few pop stars have a song as demanding of the attention as Call Me Maybe," writes Fraser McAlpine of The BBC. "There are no excursions into dubstep, no guest rappers and no raunchiness, just good clean wholesome party (as in jelly and ice-cream) fun." A good clean pop album is probably just what the 26-year old pop star was after, but she didn't manage it without a few stinkers: "The duds on "Kiss" include "Turn Me Up" and "Tonight I'm Getting Over You." They're both boring ditties about getting over someone by hitting the town. Light toe tapping may ensue, but these are forgettable tracks," writes Ron Harris of The Huffington Post.

So there you have it, Jepsen has achieved an unremarkable, totally inoffensive album with a few bad songs on it, and some catchy ones. Job done.

Rihanna Leads The Charge With Six Nominations At The Mtv Ema 2012 Awards

Rihanna One Direction Justin Bieber Katy Perry Lady GaGa Nicki Minaj Lana Del Rey Carly Rae Jepsen

It's the MTV Awards 2012 season and, with the VMA 2012 winners have recently been announced, attention is now turning to another continent and the MTV Europe Music Awards. The nominations have been announced for the event that's taking place in Frankfurt, Germany on November 11th, and it looks like it's going to be 24 year-old pop star Rihanna who is going to be the one to beat.
RiRi is up for six nominations; Best Female, Best Pop, Best Look, Best Video, Best Song and Biggest Fans. She's pretty much out of the running already in the latter, with a fan-vote seeing rivals One Direction and Justin Bieber skyrocketing ahead of the competition. As for the rest though she stands every chance, although she'll have to do battle with Taylor Swift in the first three of those categories; the country star is up for two additional nominations too in Best Live and Best World Stage.
Behind the two female stars, Justin Bieber and Katy Perry are up for four categories, whilst a host of stars are up for three, including Lady GaGa, Nicki Minaj, Lana Del Rey, Carly Rae Jepsen and Fun. A few wins for Rihanna will certainly put an upward swing on a turbulent year for the pop star who has found herself mired back in controversy after forgiving a seemingly unrepentant ex-boyfriend Chris Brown after his physical assault on her three years ago.

Britney Spears Learns Psy’S ‘Gangnam Style’ Routine

Britney Spears Ellen Degeneres Justin Bieber Carly Rae Jepsen

Britney Spears is certainly no stranger to a complex dance routine, though even the pop princess seemed a little confused by South Korean rapper Psy’s “invisible horse dance” on the Ellen Degeneres show this week.

The eccentric star’s video for ‘Gangnam Style’ recently went viral on YouTube, garnering over 147 million views. Psy dropped by Ellen’s show on Tuesday (September 11, 2012) to speak about the breakout hit and teach the accompanying dance routine, which the respected rapper explained was about dressing “classy” and dancing “cheesy”. Britney – also a guest on the show to promote The X Factor – looked bewildered when Psy initially appeared on-stage wearing a tuxedo and tennis shoes. DeGeneres’ excitement to learn the routine meant she failed to properly introduce Psy to Spears, leading the rapper to quite rightly interject, “Can I introduce myself, and not just dance? I'm Psy from Korea.” The rapper performed at the MTV Video Music Awards last week, and has already been snapped up by Scooter Braun – the mastermind behind a little fella named Justin Bieber. Psy will begin releasing material on Scooter’s Schoolboy Records label, home to fellow viral star Carly Rae Jepsen.

34-year-old Psy has actually released six records to date, including his wonderfully titled 2001 debut ‘Psy From the PSYcho World!”
