She’s current face of British fashion and now Cara Delevingne has lent her name to a new range of handbags by the luxury British designer Mulberry. Entitled ‘The Cara Delevingne Collection’, here’s everything you need to know about the fashion’s coolest new collaboration, which we first reported on last week.

Cara’s bags are not just beautiful, they’re also surprisingly versatile. The collection features three different sizes of handbags which as if by magic transform into backpacks. Once you’ve picked the size that fits you right, you then have three different designs to choose from, camouflage, studded and then quilted leather. Not to mention the colour choices, there's blacks and greys and the more stand out green and purple. Its all tres chic and also tres Cara.

A true collaboration, the handbags merge the familiar trademark Mulberry Bayswater designer with Cara’s own quirky personality. As well as being multifunctional they also incorporate some of the model’s own trademarks, most notably her tattoos. Inside each bag will a lion rivet and a heart shaped patch, based on her tattoo. The bottom of each bag is also inscribed with ‘made in England’, another of Cara’s tattoos.

Mulberry unveiled the collection at a top secret press presentation at Claridges. The heritage brand described the basis of the collaboration saying, ‘to Mulberry, Cara epitomises the brand values of British Heritage combined with London Cool.’ They were also keen to point out the hands on work of the model, saying, ‘Cara worked closely with the Mulberry design team to create a collection of bags. She visited the archives, chose leathers, sketched ideas... and the trend for understated elegance.’

The model had her own way of hinting at her latest fashion endeavour. On Friday she took to instagram posting a pic of the underside of one of the bags which reads ‘Made in England’, alongside a picture of her foot tattoo. The caption which read ‘coming soon’ had fashionistas a buzz wondering if the dream collaboration was happening soon. Cara has been the face of the brand since and this collection is said to be the first in a long term contract between the model and the brand, which will see more Cara inspired goodies. Mulberry are hoping to repeat the success they had with another Brit fashion icon, Alexa Chung, who’s namesake bag broke sales records in 2009.

At the unveiling Cara said, ‘‘my Granny will like this bag. She’s 102 years old. My five year old cousin will probably like this bag. He’s a boy.’ Probably so, but unlike us they wont have to join the waiting list which is up now at mulberry.com. You also might want to start saving your pennies as the bag are said to be priced at the just under £1,000 mark.
