The theory that Walter White’s meth empire crumbles, he assumes a new identity as Hal Wilkerson, marries a woman named Lois and fathers four boys – Malcolm, Reese, Dewy and Francis - has just been rendered useless: Bryan Cranston has been cast as Lex Luther.

And don’t worry, that’s not a season five Breaking Bad Spoiler, the show doesn’t just morph into Malcolm in The Middle… or does it? It really doesn’t, honestly.

The real news is that Cranston will play Lex Luther in Man of Steel 2 and a further five films. It seems as though the decision to have Cranston shave his head in season one of Breaking Bad has changed the landscape of his career. It could have something to do with his Emmy award winning performances as the chemistry teacher-cum-meth manufacturing megalomaniac, but when looking for the new Lex Luther, ‘bald’ is first on the list. It’s the bald head.

Hopefully this casting choice will go down like a spoonful of sugar compared to Ben Affleck’s nasty tasting medicine. The rejuvenated actor/director was cast as Gotham’s winged hero last week; a decision that was met with some fury from die-hard comic book fans, and indifference from popcorn guzzling smartphone users.

One look at the reaction to Heath Ledger as The Joker in The Dark Knight is enough to realise that you can’t judge Affleck’s performance before he’s made it. And with Zack Snyder ready to learn from the few mistakes of Man of Steel, number two with Henry Cavill, Affleck and Cranston should be a right laugh.
