Townshend and The Who's manager Bill Curbishley were both honoured with prizes at the annual MusicCares Map Fund Benefit Concert, and a number of stars turned out to support them.

Springsteen presented Townshend with the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award for his charity work, and he also took to the stage to perform The Who classic My Generation with the rocker's bandmate Daltrey, who said of his colleague, "His songs touch people so much. They mean as much today as they did when he wrote them all those years ago. Well done, Pete."

Joan Jett was also among the performers at the Best Buy Theater, thrilling the audience with renditions of the band's tracks I Can't Explain and Summertime Blues, while video tributes came in from Pink Floyd's Roger Waters, Sir Elton John, and Sir Mick Jagger.

Curbishley, who managed The Who and Judas Priest, was handed the From the Heart Award for his work with MusiCares, an organisation which helps musicians in times of need.
