The umbrella which Britney Spears used to attack a paparazzo’s car in 2007 is being put up for auction.

Daniel Ramos, the paparazzo whose Ford Explorer was targeted by Spears, is selling the umbrella to the highest bidder, but has promised to donate 50 percent of proceeds to a charity of the singer’s choice.

The incident happened during Spears’ troubled few months in 2007, during which she was going through a divorce from husband Kevin Federline. In the days prior she had shaved her own head at an LA salon.

"It was a bad moment in her life," Ramos told Broadly about the events of February 21, 2007. "Unfortunately it was captured.”

Ramos had been one of a group of paps following Spears around at the time, and found the singer to usually be friendly to photographers. “She knew us already from being out in the streets,” Ramos said.

"We didn’t know something was wrong. We were just going on a daily basis until we figured out what was happening at the time was not good. At the Mobil gas station (on the night of the umbrella incident), I told her I was worried about her.”

A few months after the incident Spears apologised on her website and offered an explanation. "I apologize to the pap for a stunt that was done 4 months ago regarding an umbrella," she wrote.

“I was preparing my character for a role in a movie where the husband never plays his part so they switch places accidentally. I take all my roles very seriously and got a little carried away. Unfortunately I didn't get the part.”
