In another piece of great news in what’s already been a great 2016 for Brie Larson, the Oscar-winning actress will be making her directorial debut in independent comedy Unicorn Store, it has been confirmed.

Variety reported on Tuesday (August 9th) that the 26 year old star will be taking her bow behind the camera for the new project, which is penned by newcomer Samantha McIntyre. She’ll also be starring in the movie as Kit, a young adult facing a crisis after having to move back in with her parents and who gets invited to a thoroughly unique shop.

Larson scooped the Best Actress Oscar back in February, for her highly acclaimed performance in Lenny Abrahamson’s Room, portraying a young mother held captive with her five year old son, and last month she was also unveiled as the new Captain Marvel / Carol Danvers character in Marvel Studios’ new movie of the same name.

The new Hollywood ‘it girl’ does already have some experience in direction, having helped oversee and write short film The Arm, which took the jury prize at the Sundance Film Festival back in 2012.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Unicorn Store was originally supposed to have featured Australian star Rebel Wilson in Larson’s role, with Miguel Arteta directing, but those plans fell through due to inconvenient timing.

The project will begin filming in October this year, but no working release date has yet been announced.

Larson’s next big-screen appearance will be in Ben Wheatley’s Free Fire, while in 2017 she’s due to feature in blockbuster Kong: Skull Island alongside Samuel L. Jackson and Tom Hiddleston, a project that’s currently in post-production.
