Brian Cox has branded his 'Succession' co-stars 'dense' for missing 'obvious' clues in the script about the ending
Brian Cox has branded his 'Succession' co-stars "dense" for missing clues about the ending buried in the script.
The 77-year-old actor has playfully mocked his castmates - including the likes of Kieran Culkin, Alan Ruck, Nicholas Braun and J. Smith-Cameron - for not realising how the show was going to conclude its fourth season.
Speaking at an FYC panel session at Paramount Pictures Studios this week, Kieran revealed the group only found out for sure during the table read for the last ever episode.
Brian quipped: "I don't understand why you didn't know, are you ... dense or something? Jesus Christ, it was so ... obvious we're gonna finish."
Creator Jesse Armstrong admitted he was deliberately vague with the cast during the final season in order to "leave a little bit of creative freedom" and an "escape door".
He added: "Maybe that was psychological because it was really, really hard actually ending.
"Partly it was creative because it was like, we need the possibility of escape, almost, to commit to the end.
"And partly, maybe, it was also to help performance to not feel like this is a cut-and-dry thing where there is no more possibility."
Brian recently insisted bosses behind the hit show - which had a very successful night at the Emmy Awards on Monday (15.01.24) - were right to end it when they did.
He told People: "I think we ended it at the right time. I think we left people ... I think it's always good to leave people wanting [more]. You know, that people want more."
But he teased that 'Succession' could even be revived at some stage in the future, pointing to theories that his character Logan Roy may not actually have died.
He explained: "You know, there is a theory that Logan may not be dead. We never saw the body, so that is an advantage."
