The director of Brad Pitt's upcoming war movie Fury has been forced to apologise after sparking outrage in Britain by filming battle scenes on Remembrance Sunday (10Nov13) as the nation paid tribute to soldiers who have died in combat.
Filmmaker David Ayer infuriated local residents in Oxfordshire, England, by pressing ahead with the shoot for the World War Two action movie over the weekend, despite receiving requests from local authorities to halt filming for the day.
Following the backlash, the director, who was once a member of the U.S. Navy, took to Twitter.com to say sorry, writing, "My heartfelt apologies for any disrespect on Remembrance Day. I am a veteran myself. It is an honor to film here in the Uk."
A hundred British extras, including former soldiers, were reportedly recruited to dress as German and U.S. troops for the shoot, and were ordered to rampage across fields to create the scene on Sunday morning.
