Bob Geldof fears the London Olympic Games will turn into an embarrassing shambles after a series of blunders in the run-up to the event.
The sporting spectacular is due to officially open on Friday (27Jul12) but organisers have been rocked by recent blunders including a lack of security staff and a walk-off protest by the North Korean women's soccer team after the South Korean flag was flown during their match.
U.S. Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney waded into the row on Wednesday (25Jul12), suggesting Britain is not ready to host such a huge international event - and now rocker Geldof admits he fears the 2012 Games could descend into chaos.
Speaking at a reception for boxing legend Muhammad Ali in London, the former Boomtown Rats star says, "I just hope, like everyone else here, that it's not naff (tacky). That's the best you can hope for, but it's quite right that there should be no attempt to beat these giant countries with vast budgets to spend on these things largely for political purposes. We don't need that."
