Guests who attended Billy Joel’s traditional Fourth of July party got an additional treat – the singer got married to his girlfriend of six years Alexis Roderick at their estate in Long Island on Saturday!

The 66 year old musical legend and his 34 year old wife got hitched in a surprise ceremony, attended by friends and family including Joel’s ex-wife Christie Brinkley and their daughter Alexa Ray. The vows were presided over by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. This is Joel’s fourth marriage, and the news was confirmed to People later that day.

Aside from the immediate family, all the attendees at Joel’s annual Independence Day bash had no idea that the couple was planning to marry. Despite their history, Brinkley took the opportunity to wish the newlyweds well by taking a picture and posting it to Instagram.

“Congratulations to the glowing bride and groom... And to my daughter Alexa, who has a wonderful friend in Alexis! Wishing the growing family every happiness!” the caption to the beautiful shot read.

In April this year, it was announced that Joel and Roderick, a former Morgan Stanley executive, were expecting their first child together later in the year – the second for Joel. A representative for the couple told the Huffington Post that the baby is due this summer, but wouldn’t give them any more specific details, saying they would “keep any further details of her pregnancy under wraps until their new addition makes an official debut.”

Billy Joel recently set a record for the most performances by a single artist at New York’s Madison Square Garden, beating Elton John’s record with a 65th set played on Wednesday night (July 1st). The ‘Piano Man’ is currently on a tour of the United States, with his next gig set for Boston on July 16th.
