Actors Billy Crudup and Anton Yelchin are set to show off their musical skills at Utah's Sundance Film Festival by taking the tunes they perform in William H. Macy's feature film directorial debut to the stage following its big premiere.

The Fargo star stepped behind the camera for upcoming drama Rudderless, about a grieving father, played by Crudup, who forms a band to perform the songs secretly composed by his recently-deceased son.

Rudderless has been selected to close Robert Redford's annual independent film event later this month (26Jan14), and MACy is planning to celebrate the project with a concert of the film's songs.

He explains, "We play seven songs in it, through the machinations of the plot. Billy forms a band with Anton Yelchin, Ben Kweller is in it... there's a lot of music. A lot of it's playback, but Anton and Billy sing; it's really good.

"We're gonna do a concert of it at Sundance... We're gonna do the songs (from the film)... There's a party afterwards where depending on what I've had to drink, maybe (I'll perform too)."

Rudderless also features MACy's wife Felicity Huffman, Selena Gomez and Laurence Fishburne.

Crudup has already proved his musical prowess on film before - he learned how to play the guitar to portray a rocker in 2000's Almost Famous.
