It lives – the first trailer for Fox’s Gothamis here. Fox’s crack at an Agents of SHIELD-type franchise (get over it, everything gets compared to the Marvel cinematic universe now) looks a lot more dark, gloomy, brooding… much like DC Comics movie adaptations of late. Oh, and did we mention it stars Ben McKenzie? As in Ryan from The O.C.? That’s probably an important thing to mention.

Watch the full-length trailer below.

The trailer is pretty epic, especially for a TV show. Apparently Fox are placing heavy bets on this project.

The two-minute trailer features McKenzie, of course, as Det. (he’s still a detective, guys!) Jim Gordon and Donal Logue as his partner Harvey Bullock. There’s moments showing a young Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor, with umbrella!), Catwoman (Camren Bicondova, on gargoyle perch), The Riddler (Cory Michael Smith, looking creepily sly as a Gotham P.D. forensic tech) and Poison Ivy (taking care of a plant, naturally). Plus, let’s not forget, Jada Pinkett Smith as a new character, gangster Fish Mooney. In short, it’s a catalogue of DC villains, squeezed into two short minutes. The trailer was first released by Entertainment Weekly, but is now live on youtube as well.

Yesterday it was announced that Fox has picked up the series for “at least three episodes”. The theme, as summed up by McKenzie’s character in the trailer, seems to be: “However dark and scary the world might be right now, there will be light. There will be light for us.”
