Benedict Cumberbatch has quit Guillermo Del Toro's 'Crimson Peak'.

The 'Star Trek Into Darkness' actor was due to star alongside Jessica Chastain in the gothic horror movie but has dropped out for unknown reasons, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Insiders say Cumberbatch's exit isn't due to a clash with another project.

The actor is currently filming the third season of hit BBC drama 'Sherlock', in which he plays a modern day version of iconic private investigator Sherlock Holmes opposite Martin Freeman's Dr. John Watson.

Cumberbatch has a busy schedule ahead including a voice role as Smaug, a dragon in Peter Jackson's upcoming 'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug', and 'The Fifth Estate', in which he will play Wikileaks founder Julian Assange.

'Crimson Peak' is a gothic horror that revolves around a woman who discovers that her husband may not be who he appears to be.

Chastain is still on board to lead the cast, while 'Pacific Rim' hunk Charlie Hunnam and 'Stoker' star Mia Wasikowska will co-star.

Cumberbatch's exit follows in the footsteps of Emma Stone, who quit her role earlier this year and was replaced by Wasikowska.
