The BBC's upcoming Sherlock special starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman will be set in Victorian England. A teaser image released earlier this year had hinted as much, with Holmes donning a top hat and Watson showing off a finely manicured moustache.

The touching letter was then read out in front of hundreds of people who attended Eve's funeral service on Monday in Warrington, U.K. (Feb 23rd), in which Cumberbatch apologized for his absence because he was "filming the show she loved."

This year it was Menzel's turn to pronounce Travolta's name incorrectly, in a humorous acknowledgment of his "Adele Dazeem" mistake last year.
Idina Menzel got her revenge on John Travolta at this year’s Oscars, twelve months after he pronounced her name totally incorrectly at last year’s ceremony. Speaking to the audience before they presented the trophy for Best Original Song together, she said “please welcome to the stage my very dear friend Glom Gazingo.”
One year ago, 60 year old Travolta caused one of the #epicfail moments of the evening after he introduced the Frozen singer to the stage as “Adele Dazeem”. Taking to the podium this time, the actor embraced her and said “I deserve that, but you, my darling, my beautiful, my wickedly talented Idina Menzel.”

The British actor seemed utterly stunned by his award for Best Actor, and was literally speechless for a few seconds.
British actor Eddie Redmayne has won the prize of Best Actor at the 2015 Academy Awards. He played the role of Professor Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything, alongside Felicity Jones.
In a hotly contested category, Redmayne beat Steve Carell (John Eleuthere du Pont in Foxcatcher), Bradley Cooper (Chris Kyle in American Sniper), fellow Brit Benedict Cumberbatch (Alan Turing in The Imitation Game) and the much-fancied Michael Keaton (Riggan Thomson / ‘Birdman’ in Birdman).

The British actor recently portrayed code-breaker Alan Turing, a war hero who killed himself two years after being convicted of gross indecency.
A petition that calls for 49,000 gay individuals, who were prosecuted in the U.K. for indecency, to be pardoned has now reached almost half a million signatures, which puts even more pressure on the government to grant this request.

Around 15,000 of those men convicted of consenting same-sex relations under the British "gross indecency" law, when homosexuality was illegal, are still alive, and a Change.org petition demanding for these convictions to be overturned now has over 500,000 supporters.

Redmayne faces stiff competition in the Best Actor category, but does his performance as Stephen Hawking make him a shoe-in for success?
He’ll be up against fellow Brit Benedict Cumberbatch, as well as Steve Carrell, Bradley Cooper and veteran Michael Keaton, but according to observers Eddie Redmayne has emerged as the safest bet to take home the best actor Oscar on Sunday evening.
Redmayne opposite fellow nominee Felicity Jones in The Theory Of Everything
The British actor has wowed the critics with his performance as physicist Stephen Hawking in The Theory Of Everything, which has already earned him a BAFTA, a Golden Globe and a Screen Actor's Guild award. But Redmayne’s greatest honour could come on Sunday, if he walks off with the coveted golden statue.

The Writers' Guild Awards were the last stop before the Oscars.
The WGA, aka the Writers’ Guild Awards are the last major guild award show before the Oscars, and the last chance to make some predictions for the big night. While the WGA laureates don’t always (or even often) match the Oscars favourites, the winners of Saturday’s show surprised literally no one.
Is The Imitation Game a frontrunner for the Oscars?
Some of the biggest winners of the night were Wes Anderson’s Grand Budapest Hotel – natch – as well as The Imitation Game, which stars Benedict Cumberbatch as logician, code breaker and mathematician Alan Turing. The winners of the WGA are usually a good indication of the Best Screenplay faves for the Oscars. Last year Her won at WGA and repeated at the Oscars for Original Screenplay.

The 80 year old screen and stage icon gave an interview to British magazine Good Housekeeping, in which she spoke about her career and hopes for the future.
She may have been in showbusiness for almost sixty years, but Dame Judi Dench is still young at heart, if her latest interview is anything to go by. Gracing the cover of the March edition of Good Housekeeping, the Oscar-winning actress said that she was considering marking her 80th birthday by getting a tattoo.
Dench turned 80 on December 9th last year, and despite the landmark she declared that she has no intention of retiring or slowing down just yet. “All I wanted was the people I love around me, I didn’t want a fuss. The words old, eight-oh and retire are banned in my house,” the Philomena and Skyfall actress said. “The prospect of no work on the horizon makes me a bit edgy. I have no particular ambitions – I just want to be employed!”

The SAG awards pave the way for the Oscars next month.
OK, so who’s nominated for the SAG Awards, happening tonight? The SAG ceremony is always more anticipated for the fashion and red carpet photos, rather than the actual show, but the winners list tends to be a good indicator for the Oscars later on. So, who’s on the list this year?
Michael Keaton is among the leading nominees for the SAG awards this year.
Boyhood and Birdman will go head to head in the best picture race, since the SAG awards don’t have separate genre categories. Michael Keaton, who stars in Birdman is a clear favourite this season for the honor, having scored wins for best actor in a comedy at the Golden Globes and for best actor at the Critics' Choice Awards, while Patricia Arquette won for best supporting actress in a drama at both shows, with Ellar Coltrane picking up best young actor awards at the Critics' Choice. Birdman won best acting ensemble at the Critics' Choice.

Hollywood is really getting on the internet bandwagon - even if it is a few years late.
These days, it’s not an award show without an official selfie or photobomb or whatever image-related bandwagon Hollywood is hopping on that week. I’m talking, of course, about Benedict Cumberbatch, that painstaking “penguin” pronouncing pun producing pharaoh of the internet (feel free to pitch in a synonym starting with “p”).
Benedict Cumberbatch: the most awkward Brit in showbiz?
Here’s the backstory. Displaying the typical Hollywood amount of cultural sensitivity, hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were doing a bit on North Korea. Meanwhile, Meryl Streep was posing for a photo-op with an in-disguise Margaret Cho. Oh, and guess who was behind the camera? A treat for older viewers – it was Michael Keaton. It kind of begs the question - is BC's photobomb this year's Oscars selfie?

Benedict Cumberbatch can't wait to get his teeth into 'Doctor Strange'.
Benedict Cumberbatch was perhaps the surprise choice to play Marvel's Doctor Strange, though the British actor - who could be "the Oscar-winning British actor" come February - insists he does not consider the big-budget comic book movie to be a potential pitfall.
Benedict Cumberbatch isn't concerned about the potential pitfalls of Doctor Strange
"I don't think it's a risk because of Marvel," he told the Wall Street Journal, bluntly. "Marvel is a stable of bringing out ordinary comic characters and turning them into screen-like gods. It's very different, it's an Astral Plane. There's a huge new element to this Marvel universe that's going to be employed in building this story and this character."

It stars Benedict Cumberbatch in the lead role, with the likes of Allen Leech, Matthew Beard and Alex Lawther - the latter of whom plays Turing's younger self. The final part of Peter Jackson's Middle Earth saga ties his two trilogies together, as Jackson reveals he will almost certainly never return to the setting.
With 'The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies', Peter Jackson has completed a second trilogy of films based on J.R.R. Tolkien's classic novels 'The Hobbit' and 'The Lord Of The Rings'. But fans are wondering if he might have one more trilogy up his sleeve, as Tolkien wrote plenty more material about Middle Earth, including the novel 'The Silmarillion', short stories and more appendices and indices.
Martin Freeman stars as The Hobbit in 'The Hobbit' trilogy.
Jackson has already expanded 'The Hobbit' from a meandering little road trip into a massive battle trilogy using some of Tolkien's extra material, but the issue going forward is that the Tolkien estate owns everything that isn't contained in the 'Hobbit' or 'Rings' books, and they're apparently not happy with what Jackson did with The Hobbit.

Peter Jackson's expanded take on J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit comes to a conclusion in a battle epic packed with enormous action sequences that oddly distract attention from the much more engaging central plotline. By the time it thunders to its satisfying conclusion after nearly two and a half hours, there's a sense of balance restored, providing some powerfully emotional moments along with the thrills. But there's a lot of chaotic mayhem to get through first.
The action picks up immediately, as the dragon Smaug (Benedict Cumberbatch) roars into Laketown causing further desolation before being stopped by the heroic Bard (Luke Evans), who then leads the survivors back to their long-abandoned city in the mountains. Meanwhile, dwarf king Thorin (Richard Armitage) has reclaimed his throne and Smaug's enormous stash of gold, which consumes his soul with greed. But he abandons his promises to Bard and the elf leader Thranduil (Lee Pace), who assembles the elf army against him. So Thorin calls in a dwarf battalion to take them on. Meanwhile, the hobbit Bilbo (Martin Freeman) is trying to diffuse the situation and snap Thorin out of his avaricious funk. And wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) discovers that two waves of ruthless orcs are descending on Thorin.
All of this strategising and squaring-off feels fragmented and uneven, as Jackson cuts back and forth between the sprawling ensemble cast while trying to build momentum toward the earth-rattling collision of these five armies. Thankfully, there's also a lot of interpersonal stuff going on to hold the interest. Elf warrior Legolas (Orlando Bloom) is still caught up in a romantic triangle with his intended Tauriel (Evangeline Lilly) and her forbidden love, the unusually hot dwarf Kili (Aidan Turner). And there's some comic relief from Alfrid (Ryan Gage), a weaselly human who worms his way into Bard's inner circle for some inexplicable reason. Best of all is the push and pull between Bilbo and Thorin, which is very nicely played by Freeman and Armitage.

A biopic that plays out like a cerebral thriller, this film traces the life of Alan Turing, the British maths genius who essentially invented the computer and won World War II before being driven to suicide by a cruel legal system. So it's striking that Norwegian filmmaker Morten Tyldum (Headhunters) infuses the film with humour, energy and intelligence. And with an astounding performance from Benedict Cumberbatch, he also manages to find layers of nuance in first-time screenwriter Graham Moore's on-the-nose script.
We meet Cumberbatch's Alan as a 27-year-old Cambridge professor in 1939, recruited by MI6 officer Menzies (Mark Strong) and military commander Denniston (Charles Dance) to join the team at Bletchley Park as they try to crack Germany's Enigma code. An eccentric genius, Alan struggles to fit in with his colleagues (Matthew Goode, Allen Leech and Matthew Beard), but he manages to connect with Jean (Keira Knightley), whom he recruits even though she's not allowed to work alongside the men. Then Alan begins to build his ambitious, unprecedented computing machine. No one understands how it can help decode Enigma, but they can see that he's on to something. Meanwhile, Alan has his own secret: he's gay, which is a criminal offence at the time.
The story is told with three interwoven timelines, with the central plot being the race to break Enigma and turn the tide of the war against the Nazis. Alongside this are scenes set in 1951, when a policeman (Rory Kinnear) interviews Turing about his homosexuality. And there are also flashbacks to 1928, when the young Turing (a superb Alex Lawther) has his first encounter with cryptology, romance and pretending to be someone he's not. The links between these three strands feel somewhat pushy, all hinging on the line: "It's people no one imagines anything of who do things no one can imagine." But Tyldum allows plenty of space for the actors to add uneven edges that draw out the meaning in more subtle, involving ways.

What is Benedict Cumberbatch's new project? The BBC is keeping mum.
Benedict Cumberbatch said what? On this one, I’m not quite sure either. The Sherlock star definitely has something new and exciting brewing with the BBC, but neither party would reveal any – and I do mean any – details.
You can't just keep us guessing like this! It's just plain cruel.
The Beeb’s official twitter recently posted something very, very cryptic and it was enough to set all those Cumberbabes’ (or Cumberb*****s, if you’re feeling risque) tongues wagging. No clues on what it could be, but B-Cumb looks very Sherlockian in the photo. Only problem – the next Sherlock thing the actor is scheduled to film will be the Christmas special and it’s way too early for that. It also doesn’t look Hollow Crown-related. Beneton Cumbersome… no sorry… Benedict Cumberbatch is about to star in a BBC Two movie, but he definitely isn’t clad in Richard III garb in the photo. So… what is it? There’s a sure way to get TV addicts on your case, it’s to withhold vital information – such as new BC material to fawn over.
