Michael Sucsy is in talks to direct a film using the music of The Beach Boys.

The 'Vow' filmmaker has entered into negotiations with Fox 2000 to eventually helm the movie, which is being produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron - the team behind 'Hairspray' and 'Chicago'.

The movie is based on a fictional character and storyline, which has been written by Susannah Grant.

A number of directors have been considered, but Sucsy - who recently went over the $100 million mark in the US for romance movie 'The Vow' starring Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum - was the first to indicate his interest in the project.

The Beach Boys project has been in development since October 2010 when Fox won a bidding war with Universal to use the music of the band - known for hits including 'Surfin' USA' and 'Good Vibrations'.

Michael is also due to work on a modern-day version of Shakespeare's 'Romeo And Juliet' entitled 'Rosaline' starring Lily Collins.
