Picture: Barbra Streisand, at Joel Silver's Memorial Day party in Malibu Los Angeles, California - 28.05.12
Barbra Streisand gave a talk at a charity lunch in New York City this week (beg17Sep12) to raise awareness of heart disease in women.
The singer/actress took to the stage at the Four Seasons Restaurant in Manhattan on Thursday (20Sep12) to urge the audience, which included actress Catherine Zeta-Jones and fashion designer Donna Karan, to join the fight to improve the diagnosis and treatment of female heart disease patients.
She told the crowd, "I can't bear the inequality that exists when it comes to women. Women's heart disease is no different. Surveys show that a very small percentage of research dollars spent in the United States focuses on the treatment of women with heart disease."
Earlier in the day, Streisand took a tour of Perelman Heart Institute at New York-Presbyterian Hospital.
The cause is an important one for the superstar as she has spent years raising money for her Barbra Streisand Women's Heart Center at Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles.
