Jenny McCarthy Donnie Wahlberg Barbara Walters

Jenny McCarthy has opened up on her departure from The View, explaining that she began to feel like she didn't fit in with the ABC talkshow's way of working. Speaking to Howard Stern this week, the former TV presenter discussed her life and career, addressing speculation over a rumoured acrimonious split from the show.

When asked by the radio star whether she had been fired, McCarthy replied "Yes and no," adding "I would call it: If I wanted to stay with Rosie and if I was a Republican I would still be there right now."

She revealed that her decision to leave was made during a "four-hour legal meeting" and after realising that she would have to "censor" herself too much on the show.

Barbara Walters

She’s engaged in many interview battles in her career, and had to fight plenty of health battles off the camera too, but Barbara Walters has finally called time on her 50 year plus career, which means she’ll be leaving The View, the show she created and has been hosting since 1997.

"I have been on television for over 50 years," she said on air as her co-hosts watched. "In the summer of 2014 I plan to retire from appearing on television." Reuters reports that she told viewers that the decision to step down was entirely her own. "This is what I want to do," she said as the audience applauded. "I've had an amazing career."

ABC of course had their own statement too, praising the 83 year-old and saying “There's only one Barbara Walters." ABC News President Ben Sherwood added "And we look forward to making her final year on television as remarkable, path-breaking and news-making as Barbara herself. ABC Veteran Barbara Walters Is Set To Retire By Next Year

Barbara Walters

It’s official – broadcast journalist Barbara Walters will retire from ABC, after a career spanning half a century.

The reports were first published by Deadline and The New York Times, but ABC refused comment on the news, CNN reports. The initial plan, according to Deadline, was for Walters’s retirement to be announced in May, giving the network an entire year to celebrate her career, before it officially ends in May 2014. These days, Walters is best known for co-hosting ABC’s the View, which she also co-created back in 1997, but in her career, she has built up an impressive portfolio of journalistic experience.

The 83-year-old Walters has interviewed every president and first lady since Richard and Pat Nixon and has built a name at ABC with the regular “Barbara Walters Specials” and “Ten Most Fascinating People” specials, the latter of which have become an annual end-of-the-year programme at ABC.

Daytime TV Staple Joy Behar Is Leaving 'The View'

Joy Behar Whoopi Goldberg Barbara Walters

ABC’s The View will be one cast member short for a while, after it was announced that Joy Behar will be leaving the programme.

The ABC staple has been a part of The View since the very beginning 16 years ago, alongside Whoopi Goldberg, Barbara Walters, Sherri Shepherd and Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Every week the panel discusses the latest news and pop culture topics on the hour-long show. She will leave the show after the conclusion of its current season in August. Following the announcement of Behar’s departure, the network released the following statement: “Joy Behar has been instrumental in the success of ‘The View’ from the very beginning. We wish her all the best in this next chapter, and are thrilled that we have her for the remainder of the season.”

This move, however, is far from the end for Behar’s career. The 70-year-old TV personality is currently the host of her own show on CurrentTV, Joy Behar: Say Anything and will continue working on it for the foreseeable future. Additionally, she revealed some of her other plans in an interview with Deadline this Thursday – Behar plans to write a play and maybe return to standup comedy, which was her original medium before transferring onto television.

Barbara Walters' Chicken Pox Case: "I Have Never Seen A Case In Anyone Over The Age Of 60," Says Expert

Barbara Walters Whoopi Goldberg

It's been a tough time for Barbara Walters recently; she suffered a nasty fall prior to President Obama's inauguration, and when hospitalized for said fall, she contracted chicken pox - something an expert told USA today was extremely rare.

Ninety percent of the people who get chickenpox get it before age 13. I have never seen a case in anyone over the age of 60," explained David Nace, a physician in the geriatric division at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. "In medical literature, only a handful of cases are reported among people older than 60," he continued. "When we were in training we'd come across a condition in the hospital and ask how common is this condition? The doctors would say you'll see references to it on the first part of the board exams, the second part of the boards and the third part of the boards. Chickenpox occurring in someone in their 80s doesn't even make the boards. That's how unusual it is."

Walters was transferred from the Washington hospital she was in after she fell to a New York Hospital. She is hoping to go home soon. Her long time friend and colleague Whoopi Goldberg informed us of her plight: "You all know that she fell and cut her head 10 days ago, and then was running a temperature, but it turns out it is all the result of a delayed childhood. Barbara has the chicken pox. She'd never had it as a child. So now she's been told to rest, she's not allowed any visitors, and we're telling you, Barbara -- no scratching."

Barbara Walters Whoopi Goldberg

Co-anchor of The View, 83 year old Barabara Walters, has been hospitalized with a case of adult chicken pox.

This further ill-health comes after she suffered a fall during Barack Obama's second inauguration. She has interviewed every president and first lady since Richard Nixon, but her fall resulted in a head wound and being taken to hospital as a precaution and to keep an eye on her health. Since then she has been diagnosed with chicken pox and is still recovering in hospital.

Her co-anchor on The View, Whoopi Goldberg, let their audience know today (28th Jan). "You all know that she fell and cut her head 10 days ago, and then was running a temperature, but it turns out it is all the result of a delayed childhood," she said. "Barbara has the chicken pox. She'd never had it as a child. So now she's been told to rest, she's not allowed any visitors. And we're telling you, Barbara, no scratching."

Barbara Walters, 83, Falls And Cuts Head At Inauguration Bash

Barbara Walters

Barbara Walters, the 83-year-old co-host of The View, is recovering after falling and cutting her forehead while visiting the British Ambassador's residence in Washington D.C. on Saturday evening (January 19, 2013). Walters was treated in hospital, where she remains for observation.

"Barbara Walters fell on a stair last evening while visiting the British Ambassador's residence and the fall left her with a cut on her forehead," a representative for ABC News told E! News. "Out of an abundance of caution, she went to the hospital to have her cut tended to, have a full examination and remains there for observation. Barbara is alert (and telling everyone what to do), which we all take as a very positive sign." The veteran journalist was scheduled to contribute to the network's coverage of President Obama's inauguration events, though she no longer be on air Monday, and possibly for several days after that, according to TV Newser.

Walters is considered to be TV news' first female superstar, landing an unprecedented $1 million salary in 1976. She created The View in 1997 - a live weekday talk show that became an unlikely hit and is still one of the most popular shows on American television.

Double Standards? Barbara Walters Quizzes Chris Christie Over Weight

Barbara Walters

When Barbara Walters asked Chris Christie if his weight would prevent him from running for president, he answered the question in his usual smooth manner. Walters was interviewing the Republican politician for her ’10 Most Fascinating People’ episode when she questioned whether or not Christie’s weight would prevent him from running for President.

Christie’s terse response came: “That’s ridiculous. I mean, that’s ridiculous. I don’t know what the basis for that is.” He also told Walters “I’ve done this job pretty well. I think people watched me for the last number of weeks during Hurricane Sandy doing 18-hour days and getting back up the next day and still being just as effective in the job, so I don’t think that will be a problem.” Admittedly, Walters did start the question by admitting that she felt uncomfortable asking it and you’ve got to wonder whether she’d have been as comfortable / uncomfortable asking a female politician such a question.

Barbara’s question to Christie about his weight wasn’t the only dubious interview moment in he episode, either; she also saw fit to ask Hilary Clinton about her hair… something that didn’t go down too well with Hilary and forced Walters to add “nobody asks the men that.” No Barbara, they don’t. Maybe stick to politics next time, yeah?

Lindsay Lohan: Barbara Walters Booted In Favor Of Jay Leno For Interview

Barbara Walters Lindsay Lohan Jay Leno Whoopi Goldberg

It was widely publicised that Barbara Walters had an indepth 20/20 interview lined up with controversial celebrity Lindsay Lohan, in the run up to the release of Lifetime's Elizabeth Taylor biopic Liz & Dick, which stars Lohan. However, just a few days ago Lohan's new publicists cancelled on Walters on Li-Lo's behalf. THEN, they announced that she'd be interviewing with Jay Leno instead. The cheek!

Walters is not a happy bunny, an emotion that she aired on The View with Whoopi Goldberg on Monday (12th Nov. 2012). "If they had said to me, 'You know Barbara, she isn't up to the kinds of questions you might ask.' If they had told me that, I wouldn't feel quite as disappointed as I do today," Walters said.

Whoopi supported the octogenarian journalist, saying "You are a very different kind of interviewer." speculating the possibility that Lohan's publicists thought, "You know what, WE are not up for you to do with interview you will be doing with Barbara - you are going to do Jay and get your [movie promotion] obligation out of the way." With which Babs agreed, reports the Washington Post.

Lindsay Lohan Cancels Her Appearance On Barbara Walters' Chat Show

Lindsay Lohan Barbara Walters

The increasingly publicity shy Lindsay Lohan cancels what would be her first TV interview in years on Barbra Walter's 20/20 talk-show.

The actress has pulled out of the scheduled appearance on Walters' show, after her management deemed that it was not right for the actress to appear on such a candid show given her recent personal dramas. Walter was reportedly set to ask Lohan some incredibly probing questions into her personal life, which has been a constant source of media attention, especially over the past few months.

Although it was also believed that Lohan would appear to talk about her new TV movie Liz & Dick, about the turbulent relationship between Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, recent allegations concerning her personal life would be too hard to bypass and Lohan's PR didn't want the interview to harm her image any further. Lohan has recently been accused of lying to police about a car accident in June and been embroiling in a number of public spats with her parents.

ABC's Superstorm Sandy Fundraising Day Raises $17 Million

Barbara Walters George Stephanopoulos Mark Cuban

While the effects of Hurricane Sandy are still being felt by Americans on the East coast, with many still without electricity, ABC's Day Of Giving gleaned $17m for the American Red Cross to help those affected by the storm.

The day didn't quite take the form of a telethon, or a network takeover with special guests, rather pertinent reminders during normal programming, but it still proved a valuable exercise, with a hefty $17m heading towards people that need it the most. It wasn't just your average Joe donating though; network celebrities also got involved in the money giving. Good Morning America co-host George Stephanopoulos donated $50,000 to the relief fund and The View co-host Babara Walters made a $250,000 donation after she said she was moved after answering phones on ABC's Day of Giving, CBS news reports. Other major contributors included Mark Cuban, the Dallas Mavericks owner and star of ABC's "Shark Tank" and the Samsung Corp. In addition, the Walt Disney Co. made a $1 million contribution to local charities, which may seem like a lot, but considering their $4.05 billion purchase of Lucasfilm, it looks more like pocket change.

The effects of Hurricane Sandy are still affecting America in a place it really matters: their civil liberties. The BBC live coverage of the US Election 2012 has seen people turning out to vote in tents powered by generators with cardboard signs.

Did Nicki Minaj Threaten To Shoot Mariah Carey? Barbara Walters Says So

Mariah Carey Nicki Minaj Barbara Walters

Mariah Carey has claimed that Nicki Minaj threatened to shoot her. The claims have been made public via Barbara Walters, who recounted a conversation that she'd had with Carey on the ABC show The View, regarding video footage of Nicki cussing Mariah during the filming of American Idol. Although the footage was not completely clear, Nicki could be heard referring to Mariah as "her f***ing highness and saying that she would no longer put up with her.

Fox News report that Walters had a phone conversation with Carey, who told her "when Nicki walked off the set, multiple people heard Nicki say, `If I had a gun I would shoot the (adjective unspoken by Walters) bitch." Apparently, after a meeting that both Nicki and Mariah attended, Nicki said to her newfound nemesis "I love you but we might fight again," to which Mariah answered "no, we will not." Walters also revealed that Mariah has felt the situation so severe that she has hired extra security, saying that she "doesn't feel comfortable, emotionally." She has said though, that she intends to continue with the show because she loves it and loves mentoring the contestants.

Nicki Minaj has been invited onto Barbara Walters' show to give her side of the story but has so far has responded with a string of Twitter posts, such as "Hey yAll. Lets just say nicki said smthn about a gun. Ppl will believe it cuz she's a black rapper. Lmao. I'll then hit up Barbara n milk it" and "I don't call tmz n Barbara Walters cuz I stand on my own two feet. Never needed an army. God is good. Insecurity is as cruel as the grave." American Idol has only been filming for a couple of weeks, though we've long known that Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj were likely to come to blows. If one of the two judges have already descended into threatening to shoot the other, though, heaven only knows what the live shows are going to be like!

Did Nicki Minaj Threaten To Shoot Mariah Carey?

Nicki Minaj Mariah Carey Barbara Walters Keith Urban

Reports have suggested that the Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey battle shows no signs of slowing, as Minaj threatened to shoot Carey.

Talking to TMZ's, The View, Barbara Walters, who spoke with Mariah, said she was concerned because "Nicki walked off the set and multiple people heard Nicki say, 'If I had a gun I would shoot the bitch." The quote was met with gasps from the audience and panel, alongside a few chuckles. Walters, who also quoted Mariah as saying that Nicki is "unpredictable", went on to explain how concerned she is, and how she's with her twins, hoping nothing would happen. Nicki tweeted: "I don't call tmz n Barbara Walters cuz I stand on my own two feet. Never needed an army. God is good. Insecurity is as cruel as the grave." And continued: "I guess it hurts 2 have the producers tell u to ur face that nicki is the best judge we've had since simon. Awww, poor u. Keep them lies cmn." Ouch.

Fellow judge Keith Urban has mixed feelings on the on-going feud; he told Extra TV, he felt like "the UN" but added, "I love it, I gotta say. I love working with passionate people. I love artists. Everyone just sort of expressing themselves. It's a very alive and very invigorating work environment."
