Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly and director Adam McKay are set to reunite for Sony's upcoming comedy 'Border Guards.'

The successful trio, who have worked together on hugely popular films such as 'Step Brothers' and 'Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby', will be re-teaming for the third time, Deadline reports.

Sony is also pursuing Oscar-nominated 'In The Loop' British writer Jesse Armstrong to pen the script for the upcoming comedy.

Ferrell and Riley have starred as two disgruntled step brothers, and a successful duo on the NASCAR circuit, but their new roles will depict two close friends who decide to dedicate their lives to keeping illegal immigrants out of the USA.

But in the process of protecting their beloved nation's border, the two pals find themselves stranded in Mexico without any identification or resources to get back onto US soil, so they must now find a way to sneak across the border.

Although no deal is finalized, filmmaker Adam McKay, who directed both 'Anchorman' films and 'The Other Guys,' is looking to take the helm of the forthcoming project.

Ferrell, McKay, and Kevin Messick are set to produce the film through Gary Sanchez Productions. Michael De Luca and Jonathan Kadin will oversee for Sony.

The teaming of Ferrell, Reilly and McKay has already proven to be successful as their collaborations in 'Talladega Nights' (2006) earned $163 million worldwide, and 'Step Brothers' (2008) raked in $128 million worldwide.
