Christmas might be long over, but for Taylor Swift the season of giving continues. Earlier this week the singer surprised one of her biggest fans, 25 year old Rebekah Bortnicker, with a care package which included a $1,989 cheque to help pay off her student loans.

Taylor SwiftTaylor Swift certainly is one generous lady

Bortnicker posted a video of herself on Youtube opening the gift, which was packaged in a FedEx box that had the "Fed" replaced to say SwiftEx. The singer also included proof that she herself put the package together, enclosing a Polaroid of herself "painting flowers for Rebekah.”

The package included a gold-chained necklace with green and black pendants and a well bubble wrapped watercolour painting of the word "BEKS" and number 1989 among flowers, which had been done by Swift herself.

But as Rebekah delved deeper into the box she found a white zip purse with a note attached reading "Rebekah, now you're $1989 closer to paying off those student loans.” Inside was a cheque for $1,989! And if you're wondering why it was such a strange amount, think of Swift’s latest album title.

Swift sent the package after Bortniker created a video montage of Taylor and her pals, set to the theme tune of ‘Friends’. Swift also sent the fan a handwritten note which read, "Rebekah, Hi you. I was thinking about you today and how you have been there cheering me on in the most thoughtful and creative ways.”

"I love the video you made of me and my friends, and your text posts always crack me or make me think. I got out my paints for the first time in a while today and made you something. I really really really really hope you like it. I'm not a good painter but I think you're so beautiful and positive, even though you're dealing with the stress life brings, so I wanted to make you something. See you on tour, buddy! Sending you a hug. [Signed] Taylor.”
