Stephen Fry, to many the Godfather forefather of Twitter, suddenly quit the social network on Thursday, signing off with a rather cryptic message for his 1.3 million follows. Fry, one of the most prolific Twitter users, left fans baffled after announcing his departure until December.

Stephen FryStephen Fry has quit Twitter for a month - though surely it's not to shoot Star Wars?

He wrote: "Closing down on Twitter while filming. In a place whence I've been advised it is safest not to tweet. See you December. Here goes..."

Many quite reasonably suggested that Fry may be working in a war-zone, or in military protected base, however, one user added: "I bet it's Star Wars, and they've cast you as a flamboyant enterpreneur selling Bocce thesauri."

Fry has been linked with the Star Wars movie for some time, though the chances of his tweet being connected to the big-budget movie are unlikely given that it wrapped principal filming earlier last week. The major cast members celebrated over the weekend with a wrap party at London's Science Museum and it would represent a strange time for Fry to film a cameo.

Fry hit headlines earlier this year after admitting to taking cocaine at Buckingham Palace at the height of his addiction. The actor and writer came in for criticism, though speaking to Evan Davies on BBC Newsnight said: "If people think I should be arrested for historical drug abuse, that's fine. I'm the only person I hurt," he said.

"I do personally see a huge moral difference between invading somebody's physical space, raping them, groping them against their will, having sex with when they're under age, and me feeding my face with stuff that did me harm."
