The cast of the new Star Wars movie has been revealed in a new teaser photo posted on the Star Wars website. The team shot shows includes John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max Von Sydow.

The franchise's new faces join original cast members Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels (C3PO), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), and Kenny Baker (R2D2). The photo shows the cast plus director JJ Abrams chilling out in comfy chairs as they lay the foundations for Disney's reboot of George Lucas' well-loved sci-fi movies.

"We are so excited to finally share the cast of 'Star Wars: Episode VII.' It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again," Abrams said in statement. "We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud."

Daisy Ridley is the least well-known of the casting announcement, though will be recognised by British viewers of drama Mr. Selfridge. As for the other Star Wars newbies, Boyega is known for 2011 alien movie Attack The Block whilst Gleeson took the male lead in rom-com About Time.

Driver stars in hit HBO comedy Girls, Andy Serkis is the renowned CGI actor with credits including Lord of the Rings, Isaac took centre-stage in the Coen Brothers' Inside Llewyn Davis, and Von Sydow is the Swedish actor best known for his role as Ming the Merciless in Flash Gordon.

Maisie Richardson-Sellers, the Oxford-trained actress, who was named as a contender, is missing from the photo. Of the actors pictured, Ridley is the only one whose name hadn't surfaced during the many rumours of the past few months. Zac Efron and Lupita Nyong'o, who had also been strongly rumoured to star, are also absent in the group shot.

It has been speculated that the physical acting talents of Andy Serkis will be put to use improving the oft-derided Jar Jar Binks whilst Von Sydow could be typecast as a new Sith villain. The new film is set to take place 30 years after Return of the Jedi with a whole new host of heroes, villains and alien species joining the previous movies' iconic core cast.

Star Wars Episode VII will be released on the 18th December 2015.
