22-year-old Woodley (The Fault in Our Stars) and 29-year-old Fernandez (Evil Dead) star in White Bird in a Blizzard, directed by Gregg Araki (Kaboom). The film, set in 1988, follows 17-year-old Kat when she discovers her mother (played by Eva Green) has gone missing and, after years of emotional repression, goes through a sexual awakening. It's only years later, when Kat returns home from college that she is forced to come to terms with the circumstances surrounding her mother's disappearance and is faced with some uncomfortable truths.

Shiloh Fernandez stars opposite Woodley in White Bird in a Blizzard.

Yet the truths Woodley's character has to face are nowhere near as uncomfortable as Woodley felt whilst filming sex scenes for White Bird in a Blizzard. Speaking to the NY Post, Woodley explained how she thought it was an "awkward situation" to be in. She stated, "It's always an awkward situation when you have to pretend to be intimate with someone that you're not actually intimate with - I think the awkwardness probably lends itself to these great virginity scenes."

However, Fernandez managed to see the funny side of the bizarre situation. He said, "It was really just sort of fun for us to dive into this and just laugh at the whole silliness of not having anything sexual happen, and having to wear these pads on your private areas."

White Bird in a Blizzard is released in US cinemas on 24th October.
