Danger Mouse will be returning to our screens after more than twenty years since it last aired. The new series, set to air in 2015, will be broadcast on CBBC next year.

Danger Mouse
Danger Mouse aired between 1981 and 1992.

The series originally ran from 1981 to 1992. It was hugely popular through its 11 year run and reached audiences the world over, including in the US where it was broadcast on Nickelodeon. As the BBC reports, CBBC controller Cheryl Taylor promised the new series would "win over a whole new generation of fans."

Superhero Danger Mouse was voiced by Sir David Jason and the late Terry Scott lent his voice to Danger Mouse's sidekick, Ernest Penfold. Edward Kelsey provided the voice for Danger Mouse's boss Colonel K. The voices for the upcoming re-envisioning of Danger Mouse have yet to be confirmed.

A number of Danger Mouse's enemies are set to return for the new series including Duckula but the BBC promises they will have different up-to-date gadgets and locations to interact with. A FremantleMedia executive, Rick Glanker, said the "rebooted version will be brought up-to-date for today's tech-savvy and content-hungry kids." One example is of Danger Mouse's eye patch which will be upgraded at an "i-patch"!

52 episodes have been ordered, according to the Mail. Fremantle Media are producing the new series, the company were responsible for distributing the original Danger Mouse show and have gone on to produce such children's shows as animated series Mr. Bean and fantasy series Merlin. Boulder Media, known for The Amazing World of Gumball, also has a producer credit.

The series is loosely based on British spy series and films popular throughout the 1960s. Cheryl Taylor referred to this during her statement, describing Danger Mouse as "the last word in debonair and delightfully eccentric heroics."

Look out for the rebooted Danger Mouse on CBBC in 2015.
