The artwork for Pink Floyd’s long awaited new album, The Endless River was revealed this week at London’s South Bank with an eight metre lit installation. The artwork, which also appeared on buildings in various cities around the world, was created for the band by Ahmed Emad Eldin, an 18-year-old Egyptian digital artist.

The mostly instrumental album will be made up of material which originated from 1994’s Division Bell session. The band have since revisited the songs, which were created with member Richard Wright, who passed away in 2008.

Speaking ahead of the album’s release on November 10th, drummer Nick Mason said, “The Endless River is a tribute to Rick.” “I think this record is a good way of recognising a lot of what he does and how his playing was at the heart of the Pink Floyd sound. Listening back to the sessions, it really brought home to me what a special player he was.”

In recent years the group have also lost frequent collaborator Storm Thorgerson, who died in 2013. Thorgerson had been responsible for creating some of the band’s most iconic artwork. Needing an image that would continue his legacy, the band entrusted his design partner Aubrey ‘Po’ Powel with choosing the new album’s artwork.

Describing the image created by 18 year old Eldin, Powell said, “when we saw Ahmed’s image it had an instant Floydian resonance. It’s enigmatic and open to interpretation, and is the cover that works so well for The Endless River.”

Meanwhile Dave Gilmour has spoken of the process the band when through while putting together their first new album in over two decades. “We listened to over 20 hours of the three of us playing together and selected the music we wanted to work on for the new album,” the 68 year old singer said.

“Over the last year we've added new parts, re-recorded others and generally harnessed studio technology to make a 21st century Pink Floyd album. With Rick gone, and with him the chance of ever doing it again, it feels right that these revisited and reworked tracks should be made available as part of our repertoire,” he added.

The Endless River will be released November 10th on Parlophone records and is produced by David Gilmour, Phil Manzanera, Youth and Andy Jackson.
