Nicki Minaj is without a doubt the most dominating female artist in the hip-hop genre, from ruling numerous music charts, to landing movie roles and even earning a judges spot on 'American Idol,' and although her career is far from over she frequently thinks about the prospect of starting a family.

"I don't want to work my whole life without ever experiencing the joys of a family," the 31-year-old star told the magazine. "I would like to take a hiatus and dedicate myself completely to my child."

Minaj is currently engrossed in her music career, and with her third studio album 'The Pinkprint' being released next month she is still very busy searching for further success in a male-dominated industry.

"At first, no one took me seriously," she admitted. "In the world of rap, women are usually relegated to the choir. I want to build my empire. In my field, I have always seen men do it-from Diddy to Dr. Dre to Jay Z. Now it's a woman's turn."

But after being recently inspired by a fellow female performer, the 'Anaconda' rapper realized that a family and a career can be compatible with one another. While performing the 'Flawless Remix' with Beyoncé during her On the Run tour, Minaj was able to witness how the 33 year-old songstress interacted with daughter Blue Ivy backstage.

"Seeing Beyoncé with her daughter and husband was so tender," she said to the mag. "It showed me that it is possible to be an animal on stage and a caring mother at the same time."

However, Minaj did state that "family has always been very important to me, and that is why I want to wait until the right moment before starting my own. Right now I am too busy, but at a certain point the situation will change."
