Nene Leakes was rushed to hospital earlier this week and felt lucky to be alive when she was eventually diagnosed with blood clots in her lungs. The Real Housewives of Atlanta star made it known that she was in the hospital on Monday (18 Nov.), but it wasn't until Tuesday (19 Nov.) that she learnt what was wrong with her, passing the information on to her fans soon after.

"My arms are hurting wit these IV's #blessedtobealive," Leakes wrote on her official website on Monday, along with a photo of her arms laden with tubing and tape. The 45-year-old clarified her situation a day later, again posting the news to her website, writing, "Late last week I wasn’t feeling well and was feeling a little short of breath. I know my body and I know when I should be concerned so I went to the hospital to get checked out."

Her blog entry continued, revealing that after she took some routine tests, she was eventually diagnosed with blood clots in her lungs. Her online statement continued, "I’m told this happened to me because of the constant traveling around the country that I do for my job."

The Real Housewives star, who also appears in the NBC series The New Normal and plays Coach Roz on Glee, added that she is "thankful to be alive," noting that her doctor informed her that usually people do not identify the symptoms of a blood clot early enough to have it diagnosed and treated properly. She went on to thank her doctors and nurses and reassured her fans that she is on the road to recovery and currently back at home with her husband Gregg Leakes.
