Modern Family&#039;s Sarah Hyland Splits From Boyfriend Of 5 Years, Matt Prokop

Modern Family star Sarah Hyland and her boyfriend, Matt Prokop, have separated after five years together.

23-year-old Hyland, who is best known for playing Hayley Dunphy on the award winning series, began dating 24-year-old US actor Prokop in 2009. It was confirmed by Hyland's representative on Tuesday that the pair has separated.

Hyland attended the Primetime Emmy Awards 2014 on Monday (25th August) alone, which caused speculation about the state of her relationship. The news of their separation was first reported by Us Weekly on Tuesday (26th August) and has since been confirmed to the L.A. Times.

The couple met in 2008 when they were both auditioning for High School Musical: Senior Year. The pair lived together for a number of years, co-own a dog, and even starred together on a Disney Channel film, Geek Charming, in 2011.

Unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be but their split is reportedly mutual and amicable. No particular reason has been cited as the cause of their separation with one source simply stating "It didn't work out." The same source added "They decided they would be better off as friends."

A source speaking to Us Weekly and Hyland's representative both claimed "Sarah's doing fine." And Hyland certainly should be after the success of Modern Family at the Emmy Awards. The hit ABC show won the award for Outstanding Comedy Series for the fifth consecutive year. Hyland added a photograph of herself on Instagram looking radiant and overjoyed at the awards ceremony. She added the caption "This sums up the emmys2014 for me. Thank you to those who voted for us!!! I can't believe we won!!!!"
