Lena Dunham "Disgusted" With Woody Allen: "I'm Decidedly Pro-Dylan Farrow"

Lena Dunham has become one of the only celebrities to comment publically on the familial tension between director Woody Allen, his ex-girlfriend Mia Farrow and their adopted daughter Dylan Farrow. Dylan and Mia have accused the filmmaker of molesting his daughter when she was young, with Dylan detailing her abuse in a New York Times open letter.

In her letter, Dylan admonishes actors who have worked with Allen by name, including Scarlett Johansson and Cate Blanchett, claiming they had "turned a blind eye" to her father's behaviour and had condoned his actions by continuing to work with him. Allen has fiercely denied the claims, which were first dismissed by a police investigator in the early nineties, but Mia and Dylan have pressed on with their allegations.

Blanchett and Johansson were quick to distance themselves and have offered no comment of bias upon the accusations. However, Girls writer Dunham has waded into the sensitive circumstances by admitting outright that she believes Dylan over Allen. She also said that she believed that people linking his alleged sex abuse with his work is unnecessary.

"In the latest Woody Allen debate I'm decidedly pro-Dylan Farrow and decidedly disgusted with Woody Allen's behavior," she said on Marc Maron's "WTF" podcast on Monday. "But for me, when people go through his work and comb through it for references to child molestation, that's not the f***ing point."

"I'm not gonna indict the work," Dunham said, adding "I think that you can decide that you don't want to support the work of somebody who has molested a child. That's a completely appropriate choice. But going through it and saying, look, he's told us in 57 ways that he rapes kids - that's not the thing.

Stating she was "nauseated with the person," Lena debated "The thing is to look at the actual evidence that exists in the world, which I think strongly suggests that Woody Allen is in the wrong [but] I'm not comfortable living in a world where art is part of how we convict people of crimes."

Dunham Urged Others To Not Let The Accusations Affect Their Perception Of Allen's Work.

"You can know that someone's made work that's meaningful to you and also know that they have most likely molested their daughter [...] I was so unimpressed by people's inability to think in less binary ways and to just experience the ambiguity that life is constantly offering up."

Dunham came under fire herself for posting a joke on Twitter that made light of child molestation following her Saturday Night Live hosting debut last week. The actress has since apologised.
