5 Reasons Why A New Harry Potter Film Is Unlikely

J.K. Rowling really stirred up the cauldron of excitement when she published a new Harry Potter story on Tuesday (8th July) and caused fans to speculate over whether there would be a new film.

The story is set 16 years after the Battle of Hogwarts and details, from the viewpoint of Daily Prophet reporter Rita Skeeter, the lives of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Ginny Weasley and a number of other much loved characters. Although the story may have reignited interest in the film franchise, both Rowling and Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe have said there will not be another film.

But, in case you need some reassurance, here are five reasons why another Harry Potter film is a) unlikely and b) not a good idea:

1. First and most importantly, Rowling and Radcliffe have stated they do not believe a new film is a possibility. Radcliffe spoke to reporters at the Television Critics' Association event in New York yesterday (9th July) and stated that he does not expect to play Harry Potter again. 24-year-old Radcliffe said, as the Guardian reports, "My inclination is to say 'no' because I don't think it's even a hypothetical at the moment." Shortly after the news broke, Rowling reportedly text Radcliffe to reassure him that there would not be another Harry Potter film.

2. What exactly would another film focus on? The short story was simply a means of allowing us to see how Rowling imagined her much beloved characters when they were older. Whilst dark wizards are still evidently around, Harry is now an auror, the main antagonist Voldermort has been defeated. Unless Rowling decides to create a new foe for the trio to face, another film would simply surround what the short story details: the married lives and children of Harry, Ron and Hermione. It's not exactly blockbuster material!
