Legendary British rock icon David Bowie has announced the release of some more new material alongside a new greatest hits package.

David Bowie Nothing Has Changed
David Bowie will release a new track and greatest hits package on November 17th

Having taken the world by surprise twice last year – firstly, with the quick release of The Next Day, his first album in decade, and secondly, with that album actually being really good – Bowie is set to cement his legacy still further with an expansive, career-spanning collection entitled Nothing Has Changed.

Far from being a predictable re-tread of former glories, there’s plenty on the new release to entice hardened Bowiephiles and newcomers alike. A new track called ‘Sue (Or In A Season Of Crime’), which lasts nearly eight minutes, will be included on all edition of the new compilation, was recorded with Bowie’s long-term collaborator Tony Visconti and will be released on a separate limited edition 10” single and as a digital download on the day of the album.

The 3xCD deluxe edition features tracks from all periods of Bowie’s fifty year career, all the way back to his very first musical incarnations as Davy Jones in 1964. It runs through his career in reverse chronological order, which is an unusual step but it means you’ll hear his musical evolutions in an entirely new light. It also includes three tracks that were previously unavailable in physical form: ‘Let Me Sleep Beside You’ comes from the scrapped 2001 sessions for an album called TOY; ‘Your Turn To Drive’ was previously only available as a download; and there’s a 2001 rerecording of a 1971 rarity called ‘Shadow Man’.

The 2xCD standard version puts the chronology the right way round, but does not include these special tracks. A tiny complaint is that neither edition focusses in much depth on Bowie’s much-praised ‘Berlin era’ (encompassing the Low, “Heroes” and Lodger LPs from 1977 to 1979).

That’s not all for Bowie fans to salivate over. A documentary film entitled David Bowie Is, filmed on the last day of the Victoria & Albert Museum exhibition of the same name that ran in 2013, will be released on September 23rd in a selection of cinemas before a worldwide release later in the year.

Nothing Has Changed will be released on November 17th 2014.
