David Beckham is expanding his commercial empire with the launch of his first whiskey, Haig Club. The single-grain Scotch has been developed in association with the music mogul Simon Fuller and international liquor firm Diageo.

Beckham was on-hand to give the drink an A-list push with a glitzy bash on Saturday. A dinner was prepared by Tom Kitchin, chef and owner of the Michelin starred The Kitchen restaurant in Leith, Edinburgh. Kitchin served Haggis, lobster and grouse, while Haig Club – said to have notes of “butterscotch and toffee” – was the drink of choice.

Announcing the drink back in April, Beckham said: “The House of Haig has a rich history and I’m proud to be working at the heart of a home-grown brand which has built an incredible heritage over 400 years. Working closely with Diageo, we look forward to collaborating on Haig Club, valuing and treasuring the Haig traditions while reinventing this whisky for years to come.”

On Saturday, David’s wife Victoria shared a picture of the pair in Edinburgh, telling social media followers, “Fun night in Scotland to launch David's #HaigClub”. David shared his own picture, saying, “My beautiful wife Victoria joined me tonight in Scotland for my celebratory dinner with Haig Club…We had such a great night.”

Chef Kitchin – who became the youngest person to receive a Michelin star aged 29 - served an intimate seven-course dinner for the high profile launch, also attended by Gordon Ramsay and his wife, and Jimmy Choo. Guests were served hand-dived scallops, Newhaven lobster, row deer and Panna Cotta – made with Beckham’s own Haig Club whiskey.

Recently, Beckham was in the Scottish highlands to shoot an advert for the drink with film director Guy Ritchie.
