Courtney Love has weighed in on the mystery of the Malaysia Airlines plane disappearance as the search enters its tenth day. The Hole rocker and former girlfriend of Nirvana star Kurt Cobain has been pitching in on Tomnod, a satellite imaging site that theoretically lets users anywhere in the world join in on the search for MH370.

Love found something worth sharing when she discovered a strangely coloured patch of ocean with a suspicious-looking shadow nearby. The singer posted a link via Twitter, indicating that she thought she might have spotted the underwater plane and an oil slick. The image is vague at best but represents the ardent efforts of the millions of Tomnod users joining in with the search.


"Really? look closer? check it out #MH370 and its like a mile away Pulau Perak, where they "last" tracked it," wrote Love. The site responded via Facebook, posting an enhanced image of the tile "#128148" that Love had been studying. A higher resolution shot showed that the shadow was a small boat commonly seen in the area.

"Although it is still an interesting clue, it is looking much more like the other boats operating in the region. Keep up the good work," Tomnod wrote. The website directs its users to a new patch of satellite imaged sea every day where tags can be added for rafts, wreckage or anything else that looks promising.

MH370 disappeared on Saturday 8th March with 239 people on board not long after taking off, most of whom were Chinese. China has today announced that it has deployed 21 satellites to hunt the area but Tomnod allows the world to join as the search territory expands to a seventh of the Earth's surface.

Theories have abounded as to why and how the plane disappeared, with the Malaysian authorities increasingly being lead to believe that someone on the plane may have had a hand in turning off the flight's transponder. Twenty-six countries are now involved in the search for the plane, which officials believe was diverted not long after it took off from Kuala Lumpur at 12.41am.
