Angelina Jolie has signalled that she could be ready to a possible career in politics, describing herself as "open" to the idea of a life in public office. Jolie and her husband Brad Pitt have long been involved in a number of world issues and Joie became an honorary Dame by Queen Elizabeth for her campaigning work fighting sexual violence.

Now, in a new interview with Vanity Fair magazine, Jolie said she is warming to the idea of going into politics.

"When you work as a humanitarian, you are conscious that politics have to be considered.

"Because if you really want to make an extreme change, then you have a responsibility.

"But I honestly don't know in what role I would be more useful - I am conscious of what I do for a living, and that could make it less possible," she added. When asked if she sees herself forging a life in politics, Jolie replied: "I am open."

Jolie is currently in Malta shooting By The Sea - the first movie with her husband Brad Pitt since the romantic-comedy Mr and Mrs Smith.

"A few friends asked if we were crazy," she explained about the project. "[A movie about] a married couple going through some difficulties ... and I'm directing him."

Jolie could soon find herself Oscar-nominated for her directorial work on Unbroken - her biopic with the British actor Jack O'Connell in the lead role.

The movie chronicles the life of Louis Zamperini, an Olympic runner who was taken prisoner by Japanese forces during World War II. It debuts on Christmas Day 2014 an early indications suggest it will play a prominent role throughout awards season.
