The animated comedy took $9.9 million (£6.2 million) over the weekend (03-05Jul15), easily seeing off competition from Schwarzenegger's new sci-fi blockbuster, which marks his return to the franchise that made him a household name back in 1984.

Terminator Genisys took $6 million (£3.8 million) to land second place, while dinosaur blockbuster Jurassic World fell one place to third, with weekend ticket sales of $4.1 million (£2.6 million), but it was a disappointing opening weekend for stripper sequel Magic Mike XXL, which limped into fourth place with just $2.4 million (£1.5 million).

Controversial Amy Winehouse film, Amy, rounded out the top five with takings of $837,000 (£523,000), setting a new debut weekend record for a British documentary.
