Long-time CBS News commentator Andy Rooney has been hospitalized after suffering "serious complications" following minor surgery last week, according to the Associated Press.
The 92-year-old is said to be in a stable but serious condition, and his family offered no further comment on his medical problems or where he was hospitalized. The lack of information has left some fans fearing the worst, given that Rooney left his post on Cbs just weeks ago. Known for his grumpy and cantankerous manner, Rooney became a staple on the '60 Minutes' show with his lengthy monologues, ranging from serious subjects such as war, to more trivial areas. He made his last '60 Minutes' appearance on 2nd October 2011, telling the audience, "I wish I could do this forever. I can't, though". He also jokingly asked fans to "leave him alone" if they saw him eating dinner in a restaurant. During his final appearance, Rooney vowed never to retire, saying, "This is a moment I've dreaded.I wish I could do this forever. I can't, though. But I'm not retiring. Writers don't retire, and I'll always be a writer".
