Revered U.S. newsman Anderson Cooper has obtained a restraining order against a man accused of stalking and harassing him.

The CNN anchorman and reporter was granted the protective ban against Alex Hausner in a New York court on Thursday (08Aug13), as the suspect was indicted on the two charges, in addition to menacing and aggravated harassment.

The Queens native, who is a psychiatric patient at a Big Apple hospital, was arrested on 27 July (13) amid allegations he had placed a number of unwanted phone calls to the Tv personality and made four visits to the star's Manhattan home since 2008, including one incident in June (13) when he reportedly tried to kick down Cooper's front door.

Hausner, who remains in custody on $75,000 (£50,000) bail, was handcuffed during Thursday's hearing at Manhattan Criminal Court, where he was ordered to stay away from Cooper and his boyfriend Benjamin Maisani.

He is due back before a judge on 20 August (13), reports the New York Daily News.
