Bosses at the Amy Winehouse Foundation have defended a recent sale of one of the tragic singer's dresses after fans insisted the auction came too soon after her death.
Winehouse's dad Mitch came under fire after appearing on U.K. auction show Four Rooms on Wednesday (28Mar12) to offload a colourful minidress the Rehab hitmaker once wore onstage in Brazil.
Angry viewers took to Twitter.com to accuse Mitch of cashing in on the star, with one user writing, "Urgh, Mitch is peddling his daughter's memory... Is there nothing he won't do to get on TV?"
Antiques dealer Andrew Lamberty also admitted he was "uncomfortable" taking part in the sale, insisting, "It's too soon."
But a spokesperson for the organisation set up in Winehouse's memory, which helps troubled youngsters, is adamant the profits will benefit charity.
The rep says, "This was simply a way of raising as much money as possible for terminally ill children to go away on holiday with their parents, perhaps for the final time."
The autographed dress was purchased by dealer Jeff Salmon for $40,000 (£25,000).
Winehouse died from alcohol poisoning in July last year (11).
