Director Asif Kapadia's Amy: The Girl Behind The Name received rave reviews from critics when it debuted at the Cannes Film Festival in France in May (15) and was given the thumbs up by the late singer's close friend and collaborator, Mark Ronson, and her former manager, Nick Shymansky, despite harsh criticism from the star's father Mitch, who claimed the movie painted his family in a bad light.

Now the Rehab hitmaker's fans have been given the chance to judge the film for themselves and thousands packed into a tent at Glastonbury on Thursday to catch the special screening.

Film editor Chris King opened up about the making of the project prior to the screening, telling fans, "It took a long time for her close friends to trust people who were any part of the media, but her closest friends slowly began to offer small bits of information that became the backbone of the film.

"We saw an Amy that no one knew: funny, witty, foul-mouthed and charming. For the people putting it together, it was an overwhelming experience."

The film crew's efforts appear to have paid off and once the end credits began to roll, everyone in the tent erupted into applause, reports NME.com.

Winehouse died from alcohol poisoning in 2011 at the age of 27.

The festival gates at Glastonbury opened to revellers on Wednesday (23Jun15) and the event runs until Sunday (27Jun15).
